First book on my October TBR! 

I’m hoping that this month is full of reads. Please, reading slump, leave me alone?  

I’ve got so many books I actually wanna read and I have my fingers crossed that I’ll enjoy all of them.

Happy Sunday bookworms! It has been a wonderful and relaxing weekend which is exactly what I needed. There has been many Scrabble and Bananagrams games and we have just devoured the pasta we made from SCRATCH today! Our first time doing so and I think we exceeded all expectations! A day of joy! . As I walked past my bookcase before, I caught sight of the small frame on one of the shelves. The print says ‘Remember Why you started’. With 10 days to go until the business pre-launch, my poor brain is in overdrive as there is still so much to do, for the launch and beyond. This pile of INCREDIBLE #loveozya is a reminder of why I’m doing this and where I’m headed. The excitement and fear co-exist but damn, what a journey it is going to be! Stephanie Kuehn holds degrees in linguistics and sport psychology, as well as a postdoctoral fellow in clinical psychology, which truly shows in her novels’ raw depiction of life’s harsh realities and the traumas and hidden desires that lurk within her characters.

Her newest novel, When I Am Through With You is a psychological thriller told from the perspective of 17- year - old Ben who confesses with an unsettling lack of remorse to killing his beloved girlfriend, Rose, while on a school orienteering trip into the wilderness. Ben’s narration is as sharp as the mountain peak that he and his classmates climb, and each sentence festers with skillful suspense as Ben describes the intense events on their hiking trip that led to murder. I was surprised by how well the sinister storytelling contrasts with stunning descriptions of nature! These teen’s desire to lose themselves in the wilderness leads down a dark trail of questionable decisions, loose fugitives, and buried secrets. You won’t be able to resist going down with them!

𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳?  

 

Although this year is one we’d all like to forget I am a little glad to say that I’ve found quite a few gems! I admit I didn’t get a lot of reading done because I was too busy worrying and procrastinating; I’m sure we can all relate with the anxiety.  

 

But with the few books I did pick up I’m glad to say that I have a few that were 5 ⭐️ reads! I’m so glad I got the chance to read these books by new authors for me and now new favorites!  

 

At this point I’m okay with not making my reading goals. And even though I am halfway through “Kingdom of The Wicked” I think it’s safe to say this will be another 5 ⭐️ read!

QOTD: What‘s a book from 2020 that took you by surprise?  

 

I’d pick Kingdom of The Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco. I’ve tried getting into her previous series (SJTR) and I just wasn’t invested in the story or characters but as soon as I heard that her new book had witches, demon princes and a murder mystery I was very intrigued.  

And as I delved into the book I really had fun with the story that began to unfold. I really enjoyed Emilia as a character and her passion for her family and cooking! Just reading this one made me constantly hungry 🤤 

I loved the magic and lore of the world and it’ll only get grander as we progress with the story.  

Also, let’s talk about Wrath the Demon Prince! 

I really enjoyed him and his interactions with Emilia. There’s not much we know of him but I cannot wait to get to peel his layers and see what awaits both him and Emilia on this dark yet seductive adventure!
