Decided to challenge myself by redrawing an old Gaara piece from 2022

I wish more fan content abt Sakura and Gaara (either as a ship or not) acknowledged how similar Sakura is to Yashamaru. There’s the surface level connection of them both being mednins of course, but it does further than that. Both constantly jump in front of danger to protect their loved ones (Sakura to stop team 7 from getting hurt, Yashamaru to stop Gaara from hurting others).

Not only that, but both taught Naruto/Gaara about love. Sakura was the first person Naruto ever loved romantically, while Yashamaru taught Gaara about love as a whole.

On top of all this, both Yashamaru and Sakura attempted to kill someone they loved in order to “help” them.

Sakura tries to kill Sasuke to end the pain he was bringing to himself everyone around him. Yashamaru tries to kill Gaara after being ordered too, in order to end the suffering he brought upon the village. And yet, neither of them ever stopped loving Sasuke/Gaara.

Neither Sakura nor Yashamaru could truly bring themselves to kill their loved one in the end. Sakura couldn’t land the killing blow, while Yashamaru chose to use an assassination method he very likely knew couldn’t break through Gaara’s sand.

There’s also a lot to be said about Yashamaru and Sakura’s respective love/hate relationships with their Jinchuriki. I know Yashamaru’s hate is later retconned, but that’s boringggg.

Sakura obviously never hated Naruto nearly as much as Yashamaru despised Gaara, but before they were put on a team together (and even a bit after) Sakura hates Naruto. I could go on a whole separate rant about why that was, but I don’t think either Yashamaru or Sakura hated Gaara/Naruto themselves, but the circumstances surrounding them.

Yashamaru hated the demon that killed his sister, and Sakura hated the annoyance that everyone told her she was supposed to hate. Except, hate wasn’t the only emotion there. Yashamaru also loved the child his sister loved, and Sakura also loved the honest teammate who fought to earn everyone’s trust.

also this is 100% coincidental and probably a huge reach but they look very similar as well. Like they literally have the same eye shape, and Yashamaru has the same hairstyle as Sakura in Shippuden.

Idk I just felt like ranting about these two because nobody really talks about their similarities
