I picked up a copy of this 1999 romance novel in a discount book store for $8 AU (roughly $5 US) and I am excited to read it (hopefully this weekend but we will see). As far as I can tell, it focuses on a girl escaping marriage to a mean aristocrat by marrying some kind of highland lord (?) who is by her estimation barbarous and uncivilised, and then she, like, puts herself in a chastity belt and refuses to have sex with him until he convinces her.
I bought it on my lunch break at a store called 'BOOKS4LESS' where they were also selling a tall stack of Optimus Prime blokees and slender 2018 Mills & Boon novels. My workmate saw it when I returned and she said "I would never have thought you'd enjoy a book like that!"
I did not feel very seen, as I feel my taste in novels is UNABASHEDLY trashy much of the time. The only worry I actually have about this book is that it might not be quite ridiculous enough to overcome my blegh-misogyny-in-het-romance squick.
But. I have chosen to have faith in its absurdity.
