im still thinking about that anon yellow got. that point about tommy’s arc not ending soft is SO good. like IMO tommy’s post exile arc is about learning that there’s nothing stopping him from doing what he wants to do! dream is gone! he doesn’t have to put his armor in the fucking hole anymore hes free and that inevitably translates into stepping on people’s toes and shit (which we can see him getting better about btw) but like. if tommy’s arc ends with him being quiet and docile then that means dream has won!
tommy being loud and obnoxious is part of his growth he isnt stagnant just because he’s reclaiming traits that were stamped down. and not to say that he WASNT still a little bitch during exile dream never ‘broke’ him or whatever but he got used to following orders! he started to expect that he would be limited - that he could only get a day’s worth of things done before it was all taken away from him again.
and you know what i think that had an impact on how he acts! he got used to a life where his actions had no consequences on the world. dream would punish him if he did shit, sure, but he stayed tommy’s ‘friend’. tommy could do whatever and dream would get mad, but he wouldn’t leave. the pain, whatever it might be, was temporary. and now tommy’s in a world where the things he does have lasting consequences! the things he does could drive people away - but he *has* people to keep him in check. he’s also not alone anymore! he’s got a support system for the first time in like. months.
in conclusion he is fucked up and rude but he is not stagnant!!
