it is kind of interesting to me that relatively speaking william gets out of both upp case files the most unscathed. especially considering that in prime defenders, he says the reason he left after he died is because the paranormal in deadwood became drawn to him, and it put his friends in danger.
its so difficult to imagine because right now (even though im pretty sure William already has his truesight?) these horrors seem to ignore him, unless he’s the one instigating the situation. In diseased residents, when the stryga is attacking Isaac at the church William tries to step in, but gets flat out ignored. In Empty Graves both of his near death run ins with the returned (Lui’s grandma and the doctor) were direct results of his actions, rather than the paranormal being drawn to him.
But if this is how bad things are before William felt like it was too dangerous for him to stay, just how bad do things get once he dies? What line gets crossed that prompts William to upend his entire life and leave his friends who arguably need him more than ever? And is the bar that his friends are in more danger? Or does William finally have to survive a similar situation alone? What if the line is just William realizing just how bad things really got for them, and worse what if its not?
