I'm still plowing my way through FFX for the first time (currently stuck on fighting seymour @ gagazet) and your FFX-2 posting is making me hella ready to play it i'm getting such a bayonetta vibe, what's your opinion on FFX-2?

It’s my favorite Final Fantasy. It’s got a Charlie’s Angels vibe with great, emotional moments, and a lot of fun to be had. The combat system is the best in any FF game, IMO, and the return of a class system was a wonderful thing after so many years. XII: The Zodiac Age adds jobs too, but X-2 does it better since you can basically change classes instantly, even in the middle of battle (sometimes that’s part of the strategy). It’s a very different tone from X, which is probably why so many fans were unsure about it when they first played it, but on its own, it’s really great.
