After the performance, there was still an ample time to enjoy the scenery of the Dong Shan River Park before going back to the dormitory. The group decided to take a swim at the swimming facilities inside the park, which were built for the people of Yilan and its visitors to enjoy within the duration of the entire festival.
At around 5:00 PM, the group arrived at the dormitory. In the evening, the 2016 YICFFF Summit and Appreciation Party was held at the Hotel Royal Chiaoshi. Three representatives per group were requested to attend the event (group leader, one male and one female member). The groups were required to wear the traditional costumes of the country that they represent. This event was held to give thanks to all of the sponsors of the 2016 YICFFF. This was also an opportunity for every group to express their feedbacks about their experience in relation to their participation to the said festival.
Day 9. August 11, 2016. Two sets of performances were scheduled on this day – at 10:00 AM, and at 1:00 PM.

The façade of the building looked like a collapsed structure.
After the visit to the Lanyang Museum, the group headed for dinner at the Luna Plaza. Each member was given a budget of 200 NTD for dinner. Other members went to Carre Four for a budget shopping, while the others went to tour around the mall. The group wrapped up the day by going back to the dormitory.

The dress rehearsals for the closing ceremony was scheduled at 4:00 PM, therefore there was still enough time for the group to tour around the Dong Shan River Park. Before the dress rehearsals, a pizza party was initiated by the staff of the Formosa Melody Music Center. This was a send-off gathering at the Performer’s Standby Area for the Padayon Rondalla, since they will be going home immediately after the Closing Ceremonies. There was a kimchi-flavored pizza among the ten flavors that they brought.

At 2:00 PM, there was an interview for the official blog site of 2016 YICFFF. The interview lasted for one hour and thirty minutes. The meaning behind the pieces that were performed, the concept about the group’s costume, and the background of the group were few of the major topics that were discussed during the said interview.
At around 4:00 PM, the Padayon Rondalla had a last-minute rehearsal with DCR. At 5:00 PM, all the groups were asked to prepare and immediately assemble to the Outdoor Theatre for the preparation of the Closing Ceremony.

Day 13. August 15, 2016. The remaining days were just be all about tours and relaxation time for the Dipolog Community Rondalla, since the 2016 YICFFF have already come to an end the night before. The group left the dormitory and headed to the Sanqing Temple at 1:00 PM. It is considered as the most famous Taoist temple in Taiwan. The temple is situated at the mountain slopes above Mei Hua Lake.
After touring around the temple, the group went down to the Mei Hua Lake. There were bicycles for rent along the entrance to the lake. There are bicycles which can accommodate one to six persons. Rates usually start at 100NTD to 600NTD.
While touring around the lake, the group enjoyed refreshments and traditional Taiwanese snacks. After the tour around Mei Hua Lake, the group decided to go to the Luodong Night Market for Pasalubong shopping.
Day 14. August 16, 2016. This was the last day of the Dipolog Community Rondalla in Taiwan. Silence surrounded the hallways of the dormitory since all of the performing groups have already left, except for DCR.
The group had one final tour in Yilan. Instead of the usual service bus, the group was brought to the Jiaoxi Hot Spring through two mini-vans which were provided by the Formosa Melody Music Center staff. The area around the hot springs has spas around it. There were also numerous fish spa. The rates would usually start at 60 NTD.
At 3:00 PM, the group proceeded to the Luodong Cultural Factory to witness an international architectural exhibition. At 5:00 PM, the group arrived at the dormitory. The dinner time was earlier, since it is already the last day for all the staff and officials who are staying at the dormitory. DCR performed for the staff as a way of saying goodbye.
Before heading home, the YICFFF 2016 Staff representative gave tokens for the Dipolog Community Rondalla. The members of the YICFFF 2016 staff rendered a send-off song for the group. Taiwan is truly the heart of Asia.
The 14-day trip was filled with invaluable learning for every member of the Dipolog Community Rondalla. It has imparted the essential values of resiliency, respect, character, professionalism, camaraderie, and understanding across cultures. It is with great hope that travels and opportunities such as the YICFFF will nourish the contribution that the Philippine rondalla can offer to the international scene. It can be conclusively said that despite language barrier and cultural differences, music and art can create harmonious rhythm among the peoples of the world.
Another Formosan Journey (Part 1)
The 14-day wanderlust experience of Dipolog Community Rondalla.
Music penetrates beyond the limits of distance. The participation of the Dipolog Community Rondalla (DCR) to the 2016 Yilan International Folklore and Folkgame Festival (YICFFF) consisted of of 13 performances and a performance for the Closing Ceremony. The YICFFF is an annual summer festival which focuses on performance, exhibition, games, and cultural exchange. The group stayed in Taiwan for a total of 14 days from August 3 to August 16, 2016.

Day 1. August 3, 2016. Upon arrival at the dormitory, positive impressions immediately dawned. The Cardinal Tien College of Healthcare Management Dormitory is a five-story building with a basement. All of the rooms in every floor of the dormitory have identical layouts. There is a laundry area, a lounge, and a kitchen in every floor. Every room can accommodate four persons. In order to maximize the space, bunk beds are installed in each of the rooms. However, there are only study tables and cabinets in the lower part, and the upper deck is utilized as the sleeping area. There is also a separate toilet and bathroom in every room. Since it is a dormitory, there are also areas for hanging your wet clothes in the terrace of every room.

The first day consisted of free time and rehearsals. The meals were served at the dormitory’s restaurant, which is located on the first floor. Every meal was on a buffet-style. You can choose what you can eat from the different types of dishes on the serving table. There were also different kinds of breads, desserts, ice cream, and beverages.
In the afternoon, a short rehearsal for the group was held at one of the classrooms in the nearby building.
Later in the afternoon, the group first strolled in the city proper of Yilan, took photos, and ate dinner at a traditional Chinese food house along with other international groups. There was also a Chinese opera presentation that was held in line with the celebration of the Ghost Month.

Immediately after the performances, DCR proceeded to the Closing Ceremony rehearsals at Fushing Junior High School. DCR played along with musicians from Taiwan, such as the Yilan Youth Orchestra and Formosa Melody Music Center.

Mr. Vincent Li of Formosa Melody Music Center and Mr. Jay Sarita of Dipolog Community Rondalla discussed the repertoire for the Closing Ceremony.
Day 3. August 5, 2016. No performance was scheduled for Day 3, however the group had to attend the Closing Ceremony rehearsals at Fushing Junior High School in the afternoon. Mr. Jay Sarita of DCR served as the conductor for the whole musical performance.

In the afternoon, the group went to the Longtan Lake. Some of the members rented bicycles, while there were some who chose to walk around the lake. The scenery introduced a relaxing vibe. It was therapeutic in the sense that nature came a whole lot close to its visitor’s heart. There were fruit and tea vendors along the pathways beside the lake. There was also a temple and some tombstones within the lake’s vicinity. The lake is rich with the wonders of flora and fauna. No fishing is allowed in the area, thus several types of fish thrive in the lake.
The view of Turtle Island of Yilan County can be seen from the window of the service bus while going to the Longtan Lake.
A Budda Shrine was situated beside the lake. Passers-by can avail of the beverages for as long as any amount will be donated for the temple above it. There were bottled water, wintermelon tea, and plum juice in front of the statue.
