“You’re not as bitchy as you’re trying to pull off, Taylor”
It had been weeks since you’d showed up to practice. Your moms condition was getting worse, and you had bills to pay, so you were working overtime at the diner near your apartment.
When you got there, you dropped your bag in your locker and rushed to the field. first day back and im already late to practice
You walked to the terf where everyone was. Jackie smiled, Lottie waved, and Laura Lee grabbed you a ball.
“Nice of you to join us,” Coach Martinez said with a disappointed tone, glaring right into your eyes.
“Welcome back, we’ve missed you” Coach Ben said in a lighter tone
“Yeah. Hi,” you said quietly then started to warmup.
The team all looked the same, they were all cheering and having fun, except someone was missing, and you couldn’t point out who. You ignored the feeling until Natalie showed up.
She looked alot different since you’d last seen her, she had blonde hair now, bleached, and her eye makeup had gotten heavier. she didn’t bother to talk to the coaches, she just immediately went to warm up
“I mean, if you’re gonna show up, maybe dont show up… five minutes before practice ends?” Jackie suggested
“Atleast I showed up” Natalie replied, sarcastically.
“Y’know, I might have to kick you off the team if you keep coming so late” Jackie threatened
“You’re not as bitchy as you’re trying to pull off, Taylor” Natalie Laughed “You wouldn’t do it even if you got offered 10 dollars”
In the locker room, everyone was chipper, Lottie was planning to go to the Chinese place by Laura Lee’s house, and a few others were going too.
“Do you want to come with us?” Tai looks at you
“i’ll be fine-“
“you and nat are so boring, you guys never want to come with us” Mari crosses her arms
“Maybe its for the better Natalie doesn’t come” Jackie says quietly with a snort
Natalie looks up “excuse me?”
Jackie continues “you’d probally bring some bong and get us kicked out”
“Fuck you”
“oh, gee thanks” the room goes silent for a minute
“cmonnn you havent hung out with us in weeks, and you’re barely in school anymore, you and burnout should come with us” Van says to you and laughs
“Yeah i’d…. drive you guys there” Lottie speaks quietly
“No thanks. I’m clearly not welcomed” Natalie gestures to Jackie. and she leaves the change room.
“I was totally joking” Jackie says with a scoff
“i’ll see you guys later,” you say and walk out of the change room.
While exiting the school, you see Natalie outside taking a long drag of something
“Hey-“ You start but Misty comes rushing up to you.
“How are you? its been so long! We’ve missed you so much.” She tightly hugs you
“Fine, i guess, i’m glad to be back” you reply, waiting for Misty to release you from her grip
“Did you hear? we’ve got states soon!” she chirped
“Really? i’ve got to start coming to practice more then” looking behind her to see Natalie staring directly at you
“See you Misty,” you say as she walks away
You turn to leave too, but then a voice stops you
“You looked suprised.” Natalie says, laughing, “Did nobody seriously tell you?”
“No,” your cheeks turn pink “were you actually there though when we found out we were going?”
“Fuck no, I was probally passed out somewhere” She laughs
“Why dont you want to go to the food place tonight?” You interupt
“You heard Jackie”
“Seriously, Jackie’s lame jokes are what’s keeping you from going?”
“Not really” she looks away
“If its money look, I get it thats why-“
“Its not money.” She snapped and walked away.
Two hours later, you were infront of your apartment, your hair up and in the nicest clothes you could find, it was simple, but most of your other good clothes had stains or some kind of hole on them. You heard a car pull into the parking lot, and sure enough, it was Lottie
“Thanks for grabbing me” You say as you slip in to the passenger seat, you notice she’s listening to Hole.
“Yeah, of course”
“Did Natalie change her mind?” you ask softly
Lottie shook her head “No, she said I could go suck a dick”
you laugh as you pull up into the restaurant, everyone else waiting outside, except Natalie and misty.
Hours later, everyone was done enjoying the food, and started leaving. Lottie drove you home, and you went into your room
You looked out your window
“Natalie?”
