Yllarah sees Cylox as her nemesis because he escaped their colony even though she tried to stop him, leading the colony to cast her out for her failure. Cylox sees Yllarah as a huge asshole because she killed his friend and destroyed half his face. Marian doesn’t know what’s going on.

i’ve been busy with artfight all month, but i’m taking a break to be annoying about my ocs because i haven’t done that in too long.

cylox is in a weird situation because when you look at him with normal standards in mind, he seems impossibly weak and nerdy. just a dry branch with an egg on top. real “works out at the library” kind of guy.

but in his old colony, he was a sanitation worker. his only job was carrying stuff to be thrown away. not HEAVY stuff, mind you, but still, it was physical labor. a thrall would have been doing it if his colony didn’t have a shortage of thralls and a mind flayer who they saw as too incompetent to do anything else.

so when the other mind flayers look at him, especially high-ranking ones, they see this big hulking meathead with more muscles than brains because they’re EVEN WEAKER AND NERDIER than him.

i want you to think about that when you think about yllarah, who was considered “the pinnacle” of mind flayers.

i felt like drawing an upcoming scene from the unfinished Gauntlet fic. basically Tal tries to use a disguise to sneak past Vree and Yllarah as part of a stealth mission, Yllarah sees through them, and Cylox immediately teleports in and wrecks the entire plan trying to help.

in his defense, last time Yllarah threatened one of his friends, it ended pretty badly.

Vree and Yllarah are so mean. also i think game mechanics existing in-universe is a funny concept.

cylox is never going to forgive yllarah and he’s right not to. even after yllarah goes through her whole redemption arc and becomes a better person cylox is not going to forgive her for what she did to him and he is RIGHT NOT TO. because she harmed him in a way that can’t ever be fixed. and he’s not obligated to forgive her for that no matter how much she improves as a person
