This may be controversial, but do we think about Zorua (evolves into Zoroark) as a pokésona for Ymir Freckles?
Zorua is a trickster who uses illusions to protect itself, much like how Ymir hides her true identity to protect herself from hate for being a Titan-Shifter and defends herself emotionally with jokes and teasing.
And Zoroark is extremely protective of those it cares about, and will go to any lengths to keep them safe- including risking its own life. Much like how Ymir shifted into her Titan form at Utgard Castle to do just that. Plus, Zoroark holds grudges against people who hurt its loved ones, which is something I can easily see Ymir doing. And it also punishes people who try to capture it with illusions, which reminds me of how Ymir didn’t exactly give Reiner and Bertholdt the easiest time when they kidnapped her (she nearly killed Bertholdt!). Zoroark can also talk when it uses illusions to look like a human, like Ymir’s Titan form.
Also, Zorua is based on foxes which are canids and Ymir is basically Historia’s attack dog
And Zoroark has Ymir’s ponytail too!
Like the thing about Ymir and Historia. These are two women who dominate Reiner's imagination to such a specific degree. Historia as his comphet fixation and Ymir as his weird rival/fatebonded enemy/idealized romantic figure who's love letter he nearly gets killed to deliver.
And they're both pieces of Annie. Ymir is her defiant, oppositional personality taken to a logical extreme, jarred out of passivity and uninterested in pleasing him. Historia is that blonde haired blue-eyed hometown girl, compliant to his needs and at his service.
That's reductive in a lot of degrees Reiner's imagination is reductive but I don't think its entirely by chance that his fixations on them both escalate so severely once Annie is no longer in the picture

Reference:
Re-writing Ymir's backstory and I briefly was wondering if a bit about her tracks being mistaken for bear tracks would work. Then I remembered that Connie mentions bears, so clearly they do exist on the island. 👍
I couldn't tell you exactly what species of bear they have, but Paradis does have bears. lmfao
I know I said I’m on a AOT hiatus for now, but I wanna get this off my chest while it’s still Pride Month:
When I first fully watched freckled Ymir’s backstory, I happen to notice that while she was part of the Eldian cult, she wore a dress to symbolise the lie that she’s a royal descent; and then when she was on Paradis, she wore more boyish clothing while being her true self.
I oddly thought that this suppose to be a ‘inside the closet’ kind of thing back then, since I knew she’s clearly a lesbian, but is that looking a bit too far?
Perhaps it’s just symbolising her tomboy attitude and not her sexuality after all.
