#YogaInSchools || Update: I’ve been teaching yoga in #newarknj for a few weeks now. At first, the 6-person group thought that class would be all about stretching 🙆🏾♀️, and getting more flexible. Then I asked them to think bigger than just physical {hello, #morethanasana}. 2 boys dropped out but the girls became even more interested. They started telling friends and parents, even their doctors, about this #yogaproject, our discussion over the basic #yamasandniyamas. They are deconstructing their negative patterns and practicing #mindfulness to turn matters around. AND now they arrive in class excited for all the simple but yet complex stuff like #meditation, #yoganidra, #breathingexercises and of course, #artTherapy. OMG, I’m introducing them to my #yogatherapy protocol for adults -and they totally are digging it!!! My liaison at the school was hoping if this could be something for the teacher’s as well!! Here’s a glimpse of today’s meditative “silent art-therapy” coloring different dimensions of one mandala, switching seats every 10 minutes to expound on what someone else had started, learning how to live with no attachment to what you’ve colored before and yet finding the beauty/respecting the efforts in the work done by the previous person. One student said “wow that assignment was about possibility and freedom”; another said “working together to finish this was better than feeling all alone in my corner I focused on”... #todaywasagoodday (at Newark, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvAREVYF6de/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=id9k5blnodx4
