I am just about to graduate a 200 hour yoga teacher training program. I've been teaching friends at my house. How should I start getting myself out there? I've gone to a few studios and signed up on the sub list. I also got asked to teach a class to the owner at one studio and then I can start teaching there. It just isn't a very busy place. I'm also doing a 300 hour program next March :) and I am a certified health coach. Should I start a meetup group in my town?
First off congrats for completing this amazing and life changing event! Get teaching all the karma classes you can. Turn yourself into a yes girl and do not turn down any teaching opportunity, no matter how big or how small. The reality is yoga teachers don’t really get full time classes anytime soon. It probably took about a year of me teaching for free volunteering where ever I could and 1 class a week that I got paid for. Now I teach full time, 10+ classes a week and run a freakin yoga studio. You just gotta go for it.
You can for sure start teaching like out of a community hall, basement or some people do it out of a school or church. The only thing is if you are going to start teaching and wanting to get paid, you need to get your insurance asap! And CPR is to have too! Keep doing as much trainings and workshops as you can and start networking and reaching out to other studios and other teachers.
Starting off don’t anything to crazy. In a studio average rate you’d get per class is about $50-$60 when studios charge students $18-20 a class. You choose your own numbers. At first I’d start at like 5-10 bucks, and then if you get a little bit of a following bump it up.
