I tried out a simpler version of the overalls pattern I posted before. The chest and trousers are in one piece on both sides, so there's a seam all the way down centre front. No fastenings are needed, but the straps must be sewn very securely, because the bottom part tends to ride down when the doll sits. I want to tweak the pattern again so that the back comes further up, instead of ending at the waist.

Still stuck on rompers. I'm realising how nice they are for keeping my tinies in, especially the ones I'm still getting used to, because most of the major joints are left exposed and are thus easier to fiddle with.

Have a Peter+Nico pic.  Peter’s face-up is his default from 2007!!  And not a scratch on it, either.  Never been re-sprayed.  One thing about Volks’ default face-ups, they are tough.

So, nowadays, I’ve seen that people pay $50-$150 a pop for fancy natural fibre BJD wigs.  As an oldie in the hobby, I gotta say... very pretty mohair wigs by Kemper and Monique have been around since before 2005, when I started using them for my dolls.  And they cost about $10-25 each.  I do like how style-able the natural fibre is, you can even dye it with regular hair dye.  Four of my dolls wear mohair wigs (Shiina, Tatsue, Peter and Sui).  Altogether, the four wigs probably cost less than one of those fancy alpaca wigs you see on Etsy. XD;  (Then again, my dolls all have pretty normal-looking hair styles, so it’s not been that difficult to find conventional wigs for them.)  EDIT to add: If there are other advantages to such wigs, please feel free to share them!  I don’t own one so I wouldn’t know. ^^

Look what arrived today - cute overalls and a beautiful beanie from 28th Emporium (@sols-crew)! Peter looks unusually placid in them for some reason. XD  Mitchell (MSD F-10) has swiftly claimed the beanie, but it happened to match the overalls, so I put them in one shot. ^^  I have a weakness for knits so I would like to return for more if I can! 

Incidentally, this was my first doll clothes purchase since 2012. XD

Dolly updates (rambles)

So Peter doesn't know it yet, but he should soon be getting a new playmate! *confetti* As you may know, I have been on the lookout for a playmate for Peter for a while now. I had been eyeing one of the LUTS reinterpretations of the Customhouse angel sculpts (Uriel, Hanael, etc.) as a little tanned boy, but never quite made up my mind. Then I saw that Miyadoll was making all their limited sculpts available for order as part of a summer event, and you can pick the body size you like! I have liked a few of their head sculpts for quite a while, but I just couldn't reconcile the proportions of the Little Mocha body (slim 31cm) with my stocky Volks crew (sadly).

So now, a Baby Mocha should be joining the crew. ^_^  I'm envisioning a slightly timid, pale-skinned child~ I like the "milk tea" colour very much, but not for the specific sculpt that I’m getting.  As an owner of all "normal" skintone dolls, though, I'm anxious that cream white skin will look odd beside my pureskin normal dolls (or vice versa D:), or that it'll yellow with a vengeance, or that it'll be harder to paint for an amateur face-up artist like me. Miyadoll's "normal" skintone also looks pretty fair, but then I fear he won't have the look I'm going for. If you care to weigh in, please do~

I also considered getting just the head and putting it on one of the Yo-SD-sized bodies I'm admiring at the moment (Dollits, Cocoriang). I do think their sculpts look more "svelte", and the posing seems top-notch. But hey, little one will be clothed most of the time, and it's nice to give a new-ish company a fair chance and buy a whole doll from them. I notice a dearth of English-language reviews for Miyadoll, particularly the Baby Mocha size, so I will definitely share my thoughts when I get him.

Finally, I have made a last-ditch attempt at glass eyes for Tatsue and put in a special order from 月ノ箱庭‏ (I want to "round off" my current dolls, especially the big ones, before a new doll comes in). I would have ordered a pair for Sui too, but they don't have the right shades in their line-up - her coral-pink eyes continue to elude me. I did, however, also order a standard pair to hopefully stand in for the pair Peter is wearing in the photo above. They are HG Smoke Olive (B) (Yukinojou’s), and popular with both Peter and Shiina (^_^;). I did try smaller eyes in Peter but I keep coming back to this pair - I like how they make him look young and lively. ^^

So for the first time in about 12 years, I'm removing seam lines on a doll, and Peter will be the first to go under the knife. XD Said knife being a lovely Aritsugu I purchased on my last visit to Kyoto. I promptly ditched my craft blade for this when I realised that it cuts through resin like butter (it's a little scary, actually).

It's fun when one's hobbies cross-over each other. XD
