Paging Dr. Death || Doctors AU

Dr. Grian Fife was a medical examiner. He also happened to once be involved with carting the souls of the dead off to wherever they belonged. So, it was fitting to deal with death, even postvivam. Even as lonely as it could be, he never truly felt alone and once or twice had an experience with one of those poor unfortunates who were declared dead before they properly were dead. 

Those nights, he might have suited himself with a bit to drink and a little company with Dave, another medical examiner in the hospital. 

When he entered the morgue, there was already a ‘patient’ lying in wait.

You’d think they’d wait for him to arrive...

Some people think that seeing a black cat is bad luck. If a black cat is bad luck, then the thing I just saw in place of a black cat must mean that I'm fucked. Which isn't surprising. It was not so much of a black cat as it was a sticky black goo in the general shape of one of those gel-stick-ons for Halloween. Like it didn't even know what a cat looked like.

"Did you fucking see that?"

John, on point. I can't even say it's obvious. We haven't used The Sauce in a while. Or, I haven't. That shit looked like it came from the same source. 

"It sure as hell wasn't Fluffy." Fluffy was a randomly generated cat name in Undisclosed. There were probably ten cats named Fluffy in a town with a population of eight. And they probably belonged to one lady who hoarded things and thought she saw the apocalypse coming.

Little did she know, the apocalypse came and left, like some third friend that got sucked into a nowhere land. The Zulu Outbreak happened. Maybe that was a good reason for her to hoard cats. 

And so, here we go again. More sticky black goo and things that looked like other things but really weren't. Shit luck, if you ask me.

The long sell was what Grian liked to call trying to sell his paintings after Christmas and before the New Year. No one wanted to buy paintings, or they wanted to commission paintings for February, which Grian was just not interested in. 

After the long sell, he'd decided to set up by a local farm and paint a bit, bundled up against the harsh Maine winter. So far, he had not seen snow, but his hands were clumsy with cold and he found it impossible to paint for very long before he simply pulled out his mobile and activated the camera.

Something on the screen bounced across it as he snapped the shutter.

"What the--"

Grian mumbled and looked from the screen to the field, eyebrows almost into his hat. The thing was a grey-green, slimy, scaly thing with spikes along its spine. The camera remained on as he snapped more and more pictures and he took a few steps forward while he did so in an attempt to get closer to the thing about the size of a baby bear. 

As he approached, it stood and hopped away. Grian attempted to record it, but fumbled the phone and dropped it.

Once he retrieved it, he picked the best suited picture and sent it to the only guy who he thought could handle this sort of thing: Dave Wong.

Is there a certain scent that brings about nostalgia? If so, describe a memory this scent brings back.

Burning flesh.

Not something someone smells everyday. Or would like to. Alas, alas. Anytime Dave smells anything remotely similar, all he can think about are the labs, the tests, the experiments, the tubes, the birthing pools, the blurred shaped and muddied voices… He might get lost in his own thoughts and then question if he’s remembering things right.

On a more pleasant note, fake strawberries always make him think about Amy.

Nachos and cigarette smoke make him think of John.

What about nature do they find calming? What about nature do they find disagreeable?

This is a confusing question. Like…IN nature?

David finds water very calming, which is something, given his past (aka his mother trying to drown him in the bath) is odd. The sound of waves us super pleasant to him, though he lives near no large bodies of water. (i mean Lake Michigan is a few hours away but…okay I guess that counts, but when exactly does he ever go there?) He has a bad habit of falling asleep in the bathtub.

Disagreeable? Idk he doesn’t seem to get along with birds, which is funny because of his icon.
