Faction Before Blood
Once choice would decide the rest of his life. Growing up in abnegation had taught James Maverick many values that he cherished, but confronting his test only 24 hours before leaving his stomach in knots. He couldn't stay in abnegation. Yes, he was selfless, but he was more than that. He was brave too, and he would make his choice based on that.
He had been told by the Erudite at school that his father was factionless and that he would end up that way too, he desperately wanted to prove them wrong. He wouldn't be a degenerate, he would be contributing a member of society -- a protector. His name echoed in his mind as I was called and James marched up to the bowls. He didn't have to think about his choice. With a swift cut of his hand, blood dripped into the coals of Dauntless.
