Another re-post of the other little one shot I did! I'm kind of really OCD about tagging stuff when it's my stuff so yeah sorry >.> The ask words were "Cool" and "Benson" so I automatically thought of this- *** A twenty three year old gumball machine stood in the entrance of a garage. He was fresh out of college and had majored in what made him the happiest; music. He was an aspiring drummer and seemed to be ready to tackle the world with his confidence and ever growing knowledge. He was here for an interview with a forming band that had posted a few flyers around the neighborhood. He raised his hand in a wave motion as he started to speak. This could be his big chance. His road to fame and glory. That typical ‘American Dream’ poppycock. "Hi! Um, I saw you posted a few flyers around and I…well… y’know. I called the other day…" He rubbed the back of his dome in embarrassment, the drum sticks he had brought nervously tapping against his leg. He wouldn’t be lying if he said these four humans before him intimidated him immensely. He swallowed hard as they seemed to size him up, then grouped together to mumble under their breaths. He awkwardly looked around the garage, noticing the home built practice stage and the instruments placed gently on stands. "I think we should give him a shot." One of the members said, smiling a little. "If he’s not what he thinks he is, we give him the boot. But there’s a chance he’s got skills." The other members gave a wary glance over to Benson, but decided to agree after a moment. They stepped aside and motioned to the living machine to approach the stage they stood by. "Go on, kid. Show us what ya got." Benson’s face lit up and he couldn’t help the giddy feeling that rushed throughout his body from head to toe as he walked over to that glossy red drum kit. His hands were shaking in excitement as he sat down on the small cushioned stool behind the kit. His right foot hovered over the pedal and he held the sticks up over his head. 'Clack. Clack. Clackclackclack!' The countdown of wood on wood sounded out before his foot pressed down on the pedal, sending out a deep drum note before he started to let the rhythm take over his mind and arms. Eyes sliding shut as he worked the symbols with their loud metallic clangs and the snare drum, filling the air with well practiced notes. Slowly, the strums of guitars followed after as the music infected the other musicians, willing their souls to play with him. A crowd started to gather around the opening of the garage as they caught the infectious sound of rock’n’roll, joining in with their friends. Everyone was dressed either in rebellious attire with spiked and dyed hair or brightly colored clothing and over permed curly hair and heavy makeup. But what try looked like didn’t matter. What mattered was that they were all there to enjoy the music. They were there to unite over the bliss it gave them. Cheering and whistling was sharp as the music faded away, and surprise openly crossed Benson’s face as he opened his eyes. So many people were joined around to hear what he had played. To hear what he had created with just two sticks and a few other people. The chain he started made his gears tingle with determination and excitement. They where here for /him/, cheering for /him/. What he could do brought people together on common ground. And for the first time in his whole life, he thought that he was honestly cool. ***
