You plop yourself down agianst a tree next your friend. The both of you watch the horses together while dinner cooks. Kroner and Ely were grazing contently while Billy stood still, his head turned to the setting sun.

"He's doing that thing again." You sigh.

Even from your distance, you could see that far away look in his eyes, the usual lazy eye unfocused while his good eye gazed intently into the horizon.

You nestle in closer to companion. "Hm? Something the matter?" They respond by wrapping an arm around you and rubbing your arm in comfort.

"I wonder what he was like when he was a younger horse. He has that look sometimes and it makes me wonder if he had left someone important behind when we bought him."
