Day 327/365, 2015
THIS ONE TIME AT BANDCAMP: Volume 35
There are good weeks in music and boring weeks in music, so if you’re bored by the releases this week, here’s some fresh new tunes.
Young Runner by Young Runner
Young Runner [Brooklyn, NY]: Press play, and Young Runner will draw you into a world of catchy rock guitars and lo-fi vocals. While the guitars are fast, the vocals are sultry and calculated. It straddles a line between jumping around in a mosh pit until you loose your glasses and any fluids you might have in your body and tapping on the steering wheel singing along with the windows down on a sunny day. They take notes from catchy UK rockers like the Arctic Monkey and The Kooks, but also classic punk to the likes of Fugazi, and integrates the two.
RIYL: Palma Violets, Joanna Gruesome, Drowners
Favorite Track: "Steel Trap"
TrashPop//DoomWop by GHOSTT BLLONDE
Ghostt Bllonde [Raleigh, NC}: Let Ghostt Bllonde transport you back to the '50s where you can fall in and out of love over and over again -- preferably on a beach in the summertime. The music is dreamy and beachy with lo-fi vocals that sound like a mixture of Luke Pritchard of the Kooks and Julian Casablancas. The music is light, cheery, and nostalgic of a simpler time, but with a modern lo-fi twist. Summer doesn’t seem too far away listening to these catchy songs.
RIYL: The Beach Boys, Mac Demarco
Favorite Track: "Sexually Frustrated Nice Guys"
Demos by MERCURY GIRLS
Mercury Girls [Philadelphia, PA]: Get lost in a jangly indie-pop daydream. This “supergoup” of sorts features two members of Literature and Catnaps, both from Philadelphia. It layers all sorts of fuzzy guitars and vocals in a highly melodic, ephemeral haze that whispers ideas about the hardships of relationships. With only two demos recorded, I’m eager to see what kind of musical journey Mercury Girls will take us on, but for now we have just a tasteful glimpse.
RIYL: Blouse, Frankie Cosmos, Eternal Summers
Favorite Track: "Golden"

Listen to This One Time at Bandcamp Radio every Wednesday from 6-7pm on WMUC Digital!
West Cement from Brooklyn grunge rock trio Young Runner is a powerful track. A dense melody paired with emotional vocals and poignant lyrics make it a stand out track from their self titled EP released last year. Have a listen to this on their Bandcamp. One of the best tracks of 2014!
