Music. That is about the only thing Brian Kang and YN YLN have in common. And frankly, she has no interest in learning more about the boy she has deemed Mr. Perfect. Fate, however, does not seem to be in her favor when she finds they have been assigned to write and produce together. It can only lead to sweet chaos.
summary. after a typical break-up, your cousin tried to set you up with his friend who happened to just broke up recently as well. after months, you knew it wouldn’t end well and the universe agreed, as suddenly he went m.i.a and it was easier for you to live being free and single. until one day he texted you again…
One should never put too much trust on the weather forecast. What was expected to be a cloudy day turned to a sudden, heavy downpour, and you were whispering curses as you ran towards the nearest shade.
That was when you heard his voice, calling out your name, and you felt pathetic, with your hair wet and sticking to your face. The inability to come up with spoken words kicked in as he asked you if you needed temporary shelter and all you mustered was a soft nod.
His place was different from what you remembered, but the way his shirt felt on your body was still the same. He granted you the privacy to his room and bathroom as you changed and started the dryer, looking around and observing the changes, subconsciously thinking about what you had in the past.
There was a knock, him asking for permission to enter, and then you were both sitting next to each other on the edge of his bed.
You were just sitting but god, you swore it felt scandalous.
"You look good." you started. It was genuine, perhaps too raw for your liking but you said it nonetheless.
He smiled through his reply, "I've been good."
"I'm happy to hear that." you shivered, suddenly remembering the feeling of standing in wet clothes minutes ago, and he caught onto it.
"I'd make you a hot drink but I'd rather warm you up in a different way."
"Younghyun.."
He let out a small laugh, "I remember when you were mine, and I miss it.”
When you looked at each other, it was to search for hesitation in your eyes. When your fingertips finally met his skin, you both sighed in unison. When he pushed you down onto his bed, his soft grunts were still so familiar to you.
Skin on skin, lips barely touching, his hands all over your body, you lost yourself in the way he made you feel, and you thought to yourself, maybe you did miss being his too.

You furrowed your eyebrows as you always did when you concentrated on something and the mere sight of it filled the man on the other side of the window with nostalgia. Standing still and picking on his nails, Brian found you more beautiful than ever and if he hadn’t been so insecure about what he could and what he shouldn’t have done, he would have gladly walked up to you to tell you this. But a part of him was painfully aware of the fact that there was a huge possibility of you throwing the arranged bouquet of roses at him the moment he crossed the threshold of the flower shop where you were working at, hence he didn’t.
He had come back to Canada a few days ago because of a tour, his first ever world tour since he had moved to South Korea to pursue his music-related dreams to be precise. And while he was over the Moon because of the opportunity, the inner teenager felt sick in his chest because of the familiar yet foreign scenery. Not to mention that from the moment he had come across your old neighbourhood, his thoughts kept circulating around the same, old questions that had eaten up his mind four years ago as well. Brian wondered whether you had heard about the concert tomorrow night or whether you had cared at all. Had you ever listened to his yearning and heartbroken ballads? Did you know that they were all about you, you, you? About your late night conversations on the rooftop, the stargazing on cloudy nights and the stolen kisses when no one had been around. About the lazy Sundays, your obsession with cheap rom-coms and the worst taste in chocolate ever. Gosh! He missed you like crazy.
‘Ma!’ A little girl, barely able to walk, ran to you from the storage room and you turned towards her on instinct, so that you could catch her before she could have bumped into your leg and fallen on the dirty floor. She touched your face with her tiny hands and you smiled, a pair of steel green eyes watching your adorable interaction with the same fondness in it like in Brian’s chocolate ones.
Truth to tell, the sudden visitor caught the man off guard. He had heard about your wedding last summer, but he hadn’t known that you had already had a daughter. The little one’s messy, blonde locks resembled yours and seeing her toothy smile, Brian was almost certain that her laughter was just like yours, too. It left a bitter aftertaste on the tip of his tongue.
He still remembered the last time you two had spoken, the heated argument that had left him broken hearted all those years ago. And while he could see it in your eyes that you were truly happy with your life and your family, it was still hard for him to believe that out of the two of you, he was the only one who was stuck in the past. The only one who couldn’t have moved on.
‘So you’re with him now? I thought…’ he had asked you four years ago, desperation clinging onto his deep voice like second skin. He had been standing by your doorstep like a lost puppy and your heart had churned at the sight, really, but you had refused to let him in nevertheless. You had always been aware of your limits after all, and you had known that the moment he would have walked inside your new apartment, he would have walked back into your life as well. You couldn’t have afforded to be weak.
‘What? What did you think, Brian?’ you had asked and the mocking tone of your question had rendered him speechless. Because he hadn’t known. He hadn’t been sure. He had just… a part of him might have hoped that despite your childish fight that had urged him to attend one of those Korean agencies’ local auditions, you would have waited for him to come back the same way he had waited to have you near again. But the moment he had seen that other man kiss you goodbye on the hallway when the elevator door had opened, he had known that he had been dead wrong. ‘Please, I really would like to understand what di–’
‘That you still love me!’ he had mumbled under his nose, cutting your annoyed question off and freezing the blood in your veins like no Toronto winter could have done.
When your gazes had met, there had been nothing but silence. The type that could have killed with its heaviness as it had pushed the air out of both of your lungs.
‘Well, as you can see, I do not,’ you had forced the words through your gritted teeth, taking a step further from your ex-boyfriend when Brian had made the mistake of reaching out to your shaking hand. ‘Leave me alone, Brian!’ You had asked him to go and you had thought that you had been finally ready to shut the door in his face, but his next sentence had proven that you had been still delusional when it had come to your first love.
‘I waited for…’
You had scoffed and had lifted your right hand in front of his face.
‘I waited for you,’ you had claimed, anger turning your cheeks rosy at first, then ruby red. You hadn’t been interested in his bullshit, not anymore. You had finally put yourself together and had moved on. You would have been outright mad if you had let him take your happiness away. ‘I waited for you, for two fucking years, but it’s too late now. I said, get out!’ You had raised your voice and had closed the door in front of him with such force that the echo of the collision had rung in your ears for minutes while you had been staring at it with a blank expression on your face.
Brian had stood in front of your apartment for hours that afternoon, but eventually he had needed to walk away and seeing how happy you were now, he needed to realize that despite how painful it had been, he might have made the right decision. Although, he wished things could have been different. Because he still loved you with all his heart.
‘Good afternoon, young man! May I help you with something?’ an old lady asked the fidgety musician, pulling him back to reality with her warm voice. Brian turned towards her with a small smile, but seeing her lilac apron - identical with the one you were wearing -, he shook his head way too abruptly to not seem suspicious.
‘Thank you, but no. I… I was just window-shopping,’ he said nevertheless and turned his back on the old woman and your family after a respectful bow. A habit that had grown on him in South Korea.
He walked away in a hurry as though he had been afraid to get caught red-handed and your laughter still rang in his ears when two corners later, his legs gave way and he collapsed on a nearby bench in an unfamiliar bus stop. There were many things he regretted in his life and losing you for his fame was one that he would have never been able to forgive himself. Since the void in his chest, regardless of your happiness, was just unbearable.

Smooth jazz filtered through the swathes of people, bunched in small bouquets of dazzling jewels and shining gold. The low quartz-tinged lights kept the shadows in the corners, gently swaying to the beat as swept past, silver trays empty.
You were perched quietly at the sidelines, crimson velvet plush beneath your draping onyx dress. Eyes flickering across the chandelier above, you couldn’t help but smile at the memories that arose. The Eiffel Tower had been so beautiful in that moment, reflected in a thousand crystals suspended in mid-collapse before they shattered into their oblivions.
Your fingertips traced across the emerald gem between your collarbones, settled comfortably between intricately carved swans. With their heads bowed and wings splayed they reminded you of home, a place you hadn’t set foot in for a long time. The aching rarely reared its head, but this evening it teased at your heartstrings in a way you would never admit to any other.
Well, perhaps maybe one.
As your attentions were briefly piqued at the sight of a man with a bellowing laugh, who strode past you with his arms wide and decorated with cufflinks made of silver knots, you had moved your feet to stand. However, that was when your keen eyes glanced back across the room, only to meet another pair.
They were the eyes of a fox, ablaze with wit and narrowed in curiosity, and they stared you down and enraptured you in seconds. You found yourself glued to your spot and not giving a single damn about it, as the man bid his colleague a farewell and began to make his way towards you.
With a face that only a dream could make, the smile he gave a passerby who greeted him oozed confidence; the single nod of his head that followed knocking his effortlessly curled fringe ever-so-slightly into his eyes. It led him to run his hand through the tousled locks when he faced you again, and had you not been on the job you would have no doubt swooned.
The man was clearly something special—his suit crafted of ambrosia, a clean cut jet besides pristine white, paired with dress shoes that shone as he reached where you were sat.
You peered up at him silently, waiting to hear the voice that fell from those plush lips.
“Good evening,” he greeted.
And boy was it luscious.
You responded in kind, consciously making your eyes bigger as he extended a palm gently towards you. “Might I take you for a dance?”
After a few seconds pretending to mull it over, you let your hand slip into his. He helped you to your feet all while you were too focused on the rough pads of his fingers stroking the back of your palms.
He led the pair of you to the small area sectioned off for dancing near the live band. Passing a few other couples already swinging with the saxophone’s melody, you were captivated by how he effortlessly weaved the two of you to the centre.
All he’d said had been ‘excuse me’ and ‘sorry’ but somehow it had eased anyone in the vicinity and made them move away with no less than a grin and ushered laughter.
He was remarkable.
And if it turned out he wasn’t what you were looking for, you would be stunned.
Coming to a stop, he stood broadly before you. With a hand caressing down to your waist before settling there as if it had always meant to be, you entwined your fingers with his other as you felt across his shoulder blade.
His sensuality was thrilling, the closeness of your chest to his sending your heartbeat into irregular motion, and you had to admit he was talented.
“So,” he began, voice low and smooth like the late evening wine sipped in candlelight, “what must I call this gorgeous beauty before me?”
Lip unconsciously teasing between your teeth, you simpered. “You first.”
A smirk formed on his lips. “Younghyun.”
“Y/N.”
“Ah, a perfect name for a perfect lady.” He took the lead and you let him, following his slow sways with small steps of your own. “And a perfect voice too—there’s an accent there, if I’m not mistaken?”
“There may be,” you replied coyly, “Italian, born and raised.”
His smile brightened, “I’ve always wanted to visit Italy. The views, the food, the music...” he stopped himself with what could only be described as a sheepish laugh, “sorry, I’m probably preaching to the choir here.”
“It’s fine! I miss all of that quite often nowadays.”
Your grip tightened while your heart lurched. Attempting to keep yourself under control, you hid your disdain behind a smile.
How had you let yourself slip up like that? Since when did you wear your feelings on your cheek for a man you only just met?
As the song changed and the tempo quickened, Younghyun twirled you round by your fingers. “So what brings you all this way here, to one of the most exclusive bars in Seoul?”
“Why, do I not look like I fit in?” you enquired.
As he pulled you back to his chest, he stayed quiet for a few moments, his eyes carefully taking in the curve of your cheeks. “I’ll be absolutely honest with you,” he glanced around the room before coming back to look you in the eye, “you’re too good to fit in here.”
“I am?” You were hanging off his words, and despite your rational brain reminding you that he was just smooth talking, the way small butterflies began to send ripples through your chest had you very nearly believing him. It was as if that emerald upon your neck carried no weight at all.
“Of course.” His response was quick, sincere, and slowly the heaviness returned. You could feel it swaying a beat behind your movements together.
“I’m here to get away,” you finally explained, eyes lowering from his and focusing on his bow tie. It was spotless, folded crisply at his collar, and for a split second you wondered if it too pressed at his neck. “I’m a writer but... life can be so restricting, you know? How can I write about lives when I haven’t lived myself?”
The words slipped easily off your tongue, and you felt the tension leave your shoulders. Meanwhile, when you gazed up again, you found his smile tinged with sadness.
“I understand that. Sometimes what you end up in isn’t what you want,” he said.
Confidence filling your veins, you slipped your fingers from his and ran your hands to interlock behind his neck. “I’m so glad you get me,” you whispered in his ear, “no one really does.”
Closing the distance, you rested your head against his chest, face turned away from his knowing eyes that seemed to cut into you.
It was only a matter of seconds before Younghyun’s hands both swept to the small of your back, cradling you gently.
You pondered upon how he looked at you right then, as your eyes watched the couple beside you. They were in the same position as the two of you, swaying with the dwindling music. When they caught a beam of light as they turned, you saw how old they were, time etching at the corners of their eyes, giving them permanent eye-smiles. The man in question was truly beaming however, at the woman in his arms. He had a knowing glint in his eye, something you simultaneously wished you knew and were happy to not know the context to—without it, after all, they stayed painted in silver.
The woman, much shorter and spindly in her old frock—you imagined it was the one she wore at the last wedding she attended—seemed so content, her lips mouthing the words to an unknown song, her feet moving in synchrony with his.
Her eyes were closed, you noted, and once you had done there was no going back.
You turned your head the other way, your own gaze remaining wide open.
“Enough about me, what job do you do?” you asked, loud enough to be heard without moving, but it was pointless, as his answer came back as a teasing retort.
“What do you think I do?”
You shifted your head to come face to face with him again. You were so close to his lips it would only take seconds to bridge the gap, and the apprehension hurt. “I don’t know. Something dashing.”
“Oh really? How come?” His smirk had returned, mischief glimmering in his eye much like the chandelier lights did, urging you to say out loud what you only intended to infer.
Cocky bastard, you thought, smile growing as you spoke. “Because someone as handsome as you could only do something dashing. Otherwise it wouldn’t be fair.”
As the saxophone picked up behind him, you moved your head to settle upon his shoulder, snickering as he whispered into your ear.
“There it is...!”
You playfully tugged at the hair at his nape to chide him. “Come on, tell me, what’s your job?”
He seemed momentarily distracted, before brushing off your words with a laugh. “Trust me, it’s not as interesting as you think.”
“How could it not be interesting?” you countered, leaning in closer to his neck so that your breath would flutter across his skin there, “you wouldn’t do it otherwise.”
“You can’t be sure of that,” he retorted, swinging you round and pulling you back so your shoulders met his chest, “you’ve only just met me.”
“And sometimes a chance meeting is all it takes,” you uttered, running your fingertips down the backs of his hands at your waist. With your head turned towards him, but your eyes remaining apart, you swayed your hips with his as you continued, “I’ve seen many faces, Younghyun, I think I know people well now. And you have the face of someone who knows so much and yet hasn’t said a word.”
You got no words in direct answer to the ramble of ones you had procured. Instead he spun you back around so that he could take another good look at you, and he drank in your beauty as if he were a dying man. His lips parted to speak hours before he finally did.
“How much more do you know about me?” he eased through a coy smile.
“I don’t know,” you hummed, tracing the line of his tie with the back of your finger, “why don’t we find out?”
Your boldness earnt a single laugh, your dance partner silent before he adjusted his grip at your waist. One hand shifted up your back and held you close in an embrace, before he gently lowered you back. You held onto his shoulder as well as his gaze, as he followed you into the dip.
With lips millimetres away from yours, you had been certain he would close the gap, and press a kiss where he’d been hinting for the entire night. His eyes fluttered down to the sight of your painted lips, then back up to your curious stare. “Shall we get drinks?”
You beamed. “Sure.”
Lifting you back to your feet, his hand never left the small of your back as he guided you towards the bar, back across the lounge. You stuck close to his side to avoid the clusters of crowds as the grew and punctured the sensual melodies of the band.
Tucked by his shoulder, a sense of peace washed over you. When there was a sudden crash of spilled drinks to your right you didn’t even take a glimpse of it in, and instead kept your head low and inclined towards your partner of the night.
You reached the bar in no time, and the only time he left your side was to minutely slip ahead, to pull a bar stool out for you to sit upon.
Sending him a teasing eye roll you giggled at his silent gasp of exaggerated disdain, before he sat beside you. With his body facing you, he leant on an elbow until the bartender came over.
“Sir, madam,” she greeted with a polite smile, “what can I get for you?”
“Bokbunja for me please, and for the lady,” he addressed you with a smile, “drinks on me, what would you like?”
“No, it’s ok, I wouldn’t want to cost you—”
“Oh, Y/N, you could cost me the world and I wouldn’t care,” Younghyun interrupted,
You considered continuing with the humble act, but truth be told you didn’t have the patience for it, and you were pretty sure it wasn’t necessary. If that wasn’t an expression of a hooked man, then you no longer knew what was.
You scoured the towers of intricate bottles behind the bartender, hued amber through to olive and deep magenta. They were oddly beautiful, catching the light not unlike a thousand crystalline shards, muted by their labels written in calligraphic ink.
Making eye contact with the bartender, the corner of your lips easing into a tiny smile while you ordered, “Well, if you’re so sure. Segreto Classico, please.”
The woman’s stare widened, her smile becoming rigid as she glanced at the man at your side. You followed her stare a few moments later, once she’d stepped away with a nod of her head to make the drinks. You languidly drew your eyes up and across Younghyun’s figure. It was as if he was made for tuxedos, his clean cut jacket lining his chest perfectly and accentuating his shoulders. Now that he wasn’t touching you, your hazy thoughts began to playfully contemplate if he was real at all.
You found him frowning at his phone quizzically. “Everything ok?” you asked, leaning upon the counter to try and get a better look at his face.
He did a double take to the bartender and then finally to you, a dispassionate grin covering his lips. “Oh, yeah it’s all good, I’ve just... got to take this call, if that’s alright?”
“Oh, no problem, I’ll be right here waiting for you,” you settled your chin upon your hand at that moment, though he didn’t appear to catch your sultry display as he smiled blankly, before raising his phone to his ear and walking towards the balcony.
You watched him leave, the energy of the room dipping as he melded with the crowds.
You were brought out from your vacant stare and spiralling thoughts by a a sudden clink to your side.
Snapping your head over, you found your drink placed by your elbow, the lace design in the glass shimmering in the dim lights. The bartender meanwhile glared at you while she poured the second drink.
“You shouldn’t order that so blatantly,” she scolded, “you know full well that the drink isn’t on the—”
“And you think a member of la Giarda would drink anything else?” you interjected bluntly, taking your glass into your hands and swirling the ice amidst the clear liquid. The mint scent wafted around you and slowly cleared your mind, leading you to recount in your head what had occurred mere moments prior as if weeks had passed.
The bartender shushed you urgently, but her tension didn’t travel across the counter.
“Relax,” you urged with a snicker and knowing look, “no one knows the name here. He hasn’t got a clue. I’ll gather the information without a hitch don’t you worry.”
The woman places the second glass, taller and more simple than yours, in front of the empty bar stool. “You better not blow my cover,” she mumbled sulkily.
“You know I won’t,” you iterated, taking a sip and letting the electrifying taste sink in as you watched where he had disappeared off to.
“Because we’re only going to get one shot at this, so he better be—”
“He’s the right guy,” you snapped.
And just as your glare dwindled, the crowds parted to reveal Younghyun, phone tucked back in his pocket and expression back to life. You caught his eye once again, and in an echo of the first time, you were captivated once again. This time however, in a different way.
As he approached, you felt a jab to your heart, like twisting glass. The newfound clarity had left you open and vulnerable, and here he offered the blow without knowing.
When the chandelier cast dappled lights fraught with shadows and curtailed amber across his handsome face, all you could see was the suspended chandelier shattering to the ground. The shards finally experiencing their fate as time caught up with them.
You didn’t want him to end like that too.

It wasn’t hard to notice it. If Younghyun was a cartoon character, little pink hearts would float around his head in an almost comical way. And even if it wasn’t hard to spot it, you’d still see it, desperately trying to see if the glint in his eyes mirrored yours whenever he looked at you. It was there, just not because of you. It was unrequited on both sides: you loved him but he loved someone else that didn’t love him back. It was almost like a broken love triangle, too unstable to shape itself into something real.
You knew from the start but never told him. Younghyun would never believe you, too hopeful, thinking he had a chance and refusing to see what was right in front of him. This was something that he had to figure out on his own, it was the only way he’d believe it.
That realization came sooner than you expected it, the clock on your nightstand indicating that it was past 1 am when Younghyun showed up at your door, hair and clothes dripping wet from the pouring rain. You ushered him inside, running to get him a towel and some clothes that he had left at your place after sleepovers. You didn’t notice right away that he was crying. Only when you sat behind him on your bed to dry his hair with the towel, Younghyun let out a sob. You called out his name gently as you moved to sit in front of him, the towel immediately forgotten at the foot of the bed.
“I’m sorry.” He brought a shaky hand up to wipe his tears “I’m sorry. I just didn’t know where else to go.” He sniffled.
Your heart broke seeing him cry and the way that his voice sounded so weak did nothing to soothe your aching chest. But you remained silent, knowing that he’d talk at his own pace, opting to squeeze his hand in wordless reassurance.
“I confessed…” Younghyun started after a few seconds of silence “I thought I had a chance but-” Another sob escaped his lips, the memory, and the pain both still fresh in his mind “They’re in love with Sungjin.”
Park Sungjin, the bane of your existence. You knew who he was and his role in the dysfunctional love triangle ー perhaps square, if he’s in it too ー that you found yourself into. There was a part of you, the selfish one, that was glad that he existed since he was the reason your heart wasn’t completely torn apart. God knew how much it’d hurt to see Younghyun with someone else and in a somewhat good way, Sungjin was the one preventing that from happening. But the other part of you despised him. He was part of the reason Younghyun was falling apart right in front of your eyes. And as much as you hated the idea of seeing him with someone else, you hated to see him like that even more. You wanted him to be happy more than anything, even if it meant getting your heart broken.
“I’m sorry.” With your free hand, you pulled him in for a hug, rubbing his back as he buried his head on the crook of your neck.
“It’s not your fault.”
His words brought tears to your eyes. But I knew, you wanted to say, but bit your tongue and remained quiet. He had had enough heartbreak for one night, and you didn’t want to be responsible for changing the memory of when he saw the world through rose-colored lenses. When another sob escaped his lips and his free hand fisted the back of your shirt in an attempt to get some comfort, you were pulled away from your thoughts. Pushing your own struggles and pain aside, you focused on Younghyun. You held him until he stopped crying, rubbing his back and whispering reassuring words into his ear every once in a while.
Younghyun’s crying eventually died down, his body out of energy to cry for the night. You ushered him to lay down, eyes struggling to stay open as he sank into the warmth of your covers. Your stomach turned as the thought that Younghyun basically cried himself to sleep crossed your mind, but you forced yourself to keep it together just for a bit longer as you grabbed your pillow, ready to head to the couch for the rest of the night. However, Younghyun’s hand grabbed your wrist, stopping you from doing so.
“Stay.” He whispered, voice hoarse from all the crying “Please.”
Every fiber in your body knew this was a bad idea. You couldn’t fix his broken heart, and you couldn’t take away his pain no matter how much you wished for it. But that didn’t mean you had to sacrifice your own, right? One look at his pleading eyes, and you were already pulling back the covers. Younghyun’s hand quickly looked for yours under the covers and squeezed as if to remind himself he wasn’t going through this alone. It felt wrong, the way that your heart fluttered and broke in your chest, your stomach dropping but still filled with butterflies. But you let him, knowing that he needed it and once again putting him before everything, even yourself. Then his other arm was wrapped around your waist to pull you close so that he could bury his head in the crook of your neck. And you still let him.
“I love you.” Younghyun mumbled, lips brushing against your collarbone.
Your breath hitched in your throat before you managed to say it back, aware that your words had different meanings. He fell asleep soon after, breathing steady and his grip on you still firm. The knot in your throat kept getting tighter until you felt like you couldn’t breathe properly, but you couldn’t cry either. Not when Younghyun was sleeping next to you. The rain hitting the window brought you some comfort, if you couldn’t cry, the sky would do it for you.
Eventually, Younghyun’s warmth and the rain lulled you to sleep, with a heavy chest and mind clouded by a messy thread of thoughts that led you nowhere. You decided to set everything aside just for the rest of the night. There was nothing else you could do at the moment and in the end, you would still have to pick up the pieces of your broken heart. But not until you put his back together.
Brian was regretting ever introducing you to his band mates as you haven’t been able shut up about how much you adore Wonpil ever since, or how “precious he looks when he smiles” or how you “just want to scoop him up and twirl him around in my arms like a baby koala”.
“He’s not even that cute.” Brian grumbles, pouting down at you as you lay in his lap and rave about the keyboardist for the millionth time.
You snort at his clearly resentful comment, “You’re just bitter cuz you ain’t as cute as he is.”
“I’m not jealous. I just don’t see what he has that I don’t.” He asks, not expecting you to fucking start listing everything you think he lacks.
You didn’t do it with bad intentions, it was just the nature of your friendship to tease each other like that. But midway through your roasting of him, you notice that he’s not playfully chagrined like he usually is, but more actually hurt than anything.
“Wait, are you actually upset about this?” You gape, suddenly feeling guilty.
“No... maybe?” He shrugs, looking away wistfully.
You reach your hands up to gently turn his face back towards you, but he keeps his eyes averted. “Are you... jealous?”
Again, he shrugs and bites his lip. “Is it jealousy to wish you were saying those things about me instead?”
“Yes.” You gulp.
“Then call me jealous.” His gaze meets yours and you gasp at the intensity you see in them.
You didn’t think that a stupid crush on his band mate would lead you here, forcing you to face hidden emotions you don’t know if you were ready to face.
You shoot up from his lap, feeling a sense of unease you’ve never felt in his presence before. “I think I should go.” You croak, but he grabs onto you.
“Stay. Please.”
He looks as scared as you felt, and you know you can’t leave him alone with his thoughts, they would eat him up. So you stay. For better or worse, you stay.

You were about to crack. If you heard him say something more, you were afraid you'll punch him.
"didn't know you were that type of person y/n"
He was sitting right in front of you across the table. You raised your gaze slowly and looked at him. He was furious, you could feel it even if he tried to remain calm. All he wanted was to provoke you right now... The others around you started talking in murmurs. You bit your lip.
"Brian , calm down it's not the time nor the Pl..." you started calmly trying to avoid a really embarrassing situation
But he didn't seem to care
"is it the time and place to tell everyone that you're just a little whore?"
That's it, you couldn't take it anymore. You couldn't believe he went that far. You stood up before slapping him in the face so hard that the whole cafeteria heard it and was now turned towards you. You felt a heavy silence cover the whole place, as everyone was impatiently waiting for the next thing you were going to do. You didn't think twice and took your plate of spaghetti to pour it all over brian as he remained silent. You gave him a last look and he could see the hurt in your eyes. "fuck you Brian, I thought you were different". You managed to keep your voice from cracking and got out of the cafeteria as fast as you could. You wanted to cry, and you did, in the toilets.
Brian regretted what he said as soon as the words left his mouth. He wasn't one to handle his emotions very well, especially when it was about you. He hurt you, he knew it. But he was still mad at you, for so many reasons, reasons he thought he will never find the courage to tell you. He silently got out of the cafeteria , as everyone laughed at him.

You were home.
You were going through your last texts with Brian, last night and started reminiscing about everything that happened since then.

He didn't answer anymore. You were so confused. The next morning (today), you two talked, indeed. You didn't quite remember at which point you two got really mad at each other...
*flashback*
"Brian, I don't really get why we are having this conversation.." you said, exhausted
"I just don't think I can be friends with you anymore if you're not being honest with me... I swear you hate that guy since elementary school and now he's talking about you like you're his bitch..." he sighed "he sent that photo of you to everyone y/n! " he looked into your eyes as he almost screamed. You crossed your arms over your chest and raised an eyebrow trying to cover the fact that you were anxious.
"okay then, don't be friends with me.. Gosh why are you being so childish..." you then started walking away, trying to escape the situation.
Brian remained static, he had felt your words as if they were bullets. "don't be friends with me", "so childish". He couldn't believe that was what you thought about him. He was worried about you and you just saw him as an exasperating presence. He exhaled deeply, trying to relax his tense jaw.
That same morning you texted that Josh, told him you needed to talk to him. You met at the library, on a corner where nobody could see you.
"okay, you got what you wanted, you made me a whore in the eyes of the entire school, can you stop now? Like get to your next prey I don't know, leave me alone"
"y/n, you don't get to tell me what to do. What about you come to my house later and we get some more pictures of you and... "
You didn't listen to his next words. Your mom is a psychologist, and Josh is one of her patients, she's talked to you a bit about him mostly to warn you about him because the boy is Psycho. He was smirking at you. You were absolutely disgusted.
" you're really sick in the head aren't you? What do you think everyone will think about you if I tell them what you were REALLY doing that night? " you threatened him
"don't be so stupid. I already told you that you better not say anything or I'll make my parents ruin your mom's reputation, she will never be able to work again and..."
"I don't care about my mom" you cut him "so if I want to tell the truth I will and I don't care if you ruin her she's a bitch"
He looked at you as if you were crazy. He seemed afraid though.. He stared at you silently before sighing.
"and I AM the psycho right? Okay, okay, I'll stop..."
You gave him a last menacing look before leaving him.
You had lied. You didn't hate your mom and you weren't going to put her career at risk, but at least it seemed to have worked.
Later that day you went to the cafeteria to eat with your usual friends, including Brian. You really didn't want to be cold with him. So you sat in front of him, in hopes of relaxing things with him. Well, it only made things worse. You had never seen Brian so mad at you, he ignored you everytime you talked to him, he didn't even look at you. You had enough. "Brian, stop it now" you said to him multiple times. Sharp words came out of his mouth, such as "y/n can you understand that I can't always be on your side? I have the right to not wanting to talk to you", "are you in lack of attention? Gosh", "why did you even sit in front of me" . You just looked at him in awe, your eyes became wet as you looked away, trying not to lose your temper. Your friend asked you "what's wrong with him? What did you do?" and everyone else saw his attitude towards you. And then you know what happened.

You sighed deeply, laid in your bed and closed your eyes.
Brian could be such a prick sometimes. He really was someone who could hurt with his words. But you knew him, and he only did that when he was hurt aswell.
But why was he so quick to judge you? Couldn't he wait for you to tell him what is going on? He was being such a child honestly. You spent the night thinking about him.
You put your phone in your sweater's pocket.
You were almost falling asleep when you felt your phone under your belly. You opened your eyes and looked at the screen.
Bribri : I'm outside.
Wtf. You frowned as you got up of your bed, your phone in hand. It was like 2 am.
You : you serious
Bribri: yes
Half awake, you took baby steps to your room's door. You tried not to make a sound while getting down the stairs. You put on your coat and opened the door of your house. You found a freezing Brian standing outside. He looked at you but not for long. His eyes were admiring the floor apparently. You put your hands in the pockets of your coat and approached him slowly.
"you wanna sit?" you offered and you two sat on the chairs that were on your porch. They weren't the most comfortable but it was better than nothing.
"you could have waited tomorrow.." you said in a low voice
"I know I... I probably should just go home and let you sleep.. I'm sorry I d.. I don't know why I.." he started getting up but you grabbed his arm
"brian.. I can't go to sleep now it would be torture."
"right..." he sighed, sitting down
You had your arms crossed, waiting for him to talk but he seemed to be struggling. At the moment you were so angry at him you thought you'd better shut up.
"y/n... I'm so sorry" he started
His voice was low but you heard the sincerity in his words.
"I didn't mean to tell you those things it's just that... I don't know..."
"you called me a whore, in front of everybody"
"I apologize y/n! But You told me I was being childish when I was worried about you and tried to reach to you.. You rejected me and treated me like I was crazy.."
"I know.." you admitted
" y/n you just leave at 2 am at a party without saying anything " he took a deep breath " do you know how much I panicked when you didn't answer your phone that night? I thought something had happened to you... "
" I know, I'm sorry I should have texted you but.. "
" And next thing I know, everyone is saying you spent the night with that bastard " you saw his face change as he said those words, you could sense the anger coming out of him
" Brian..."
"after that you didn't come to school for like two days and you wouldn't even answer my calls or my texts ... so yeah, I was really annoyed at you... You acted as if I didn't exist when all I wanted was to help you, and then you want to act as if nothing happened" he stopped, his eyes were wandering in front of him, in the dark "but it made me realize something, It made me realize.. that I mean nothing to you"
You stared at him in silence as he nervously played with his hands. Tears started to come to your eyes.
"And it hurts honestly, because maybe.. You mean too much to me"
"stop it" you said in a quiver as you stood up to wipe your tears
"yeah I'll stop, don't worry about it" he finally said with a raspy voice as he tried not to let you know he too was about to cry
He quickly stood up and started walking away.
But you followed him.
"Brian stop!"
He did, you walked to him and stood in front of him. Your eyes were glittery and your nose was runny.
"you don't get it, please listen to me!" you felt the tears run down your hot cheeks
"I.. Am not perfect Brian" your voice was trembling"I tried to help a friend who had been drugged at the party and they were about to use her for god knows what, but they.. Josh wouldn't let us go unless I took that photo he's been showing everywhere.."
"wait... What? Why didn't you tell me?!"
"I don't know... I was ashamed.. I didn't want to bother you with my problems... I didn't know how to tell you that... Brian I.." you looked away as you took one deep breath
"did he touch you?! Who else was there y/n?! " he sounded infuriated
"no... He just said if I told anybody he would tell his parents to ruin my mom's reputation. The other guys, I don't know their names but I think they are in the football team. "
"sick bastard.. I forgot his parents were richer than anyone in this town" his hand furiously went through his messy hair
"please don't do anything" you asked him
He looked at you. The anger vanished from him as he saw your face buried in tears. He softly took your face into his hands and gently, with his sleeve, dried your cheeks.
"do you understand now?" you asked
His head tilted "I do"
He silently pulled you into his arms. You felt so vulnerable yet so good at that exact moment. You detached a bit from him in order to look at him.
"so... How much do I mean to you exactly? "
He glued his eyes to yours.
"you mean everything to me" he whispered
You smiled.
"Brian, I'm sorry I made you think I didn't care about you, it's not true."
He smiled too.
"please don't do it ever again"
"also, thank you for being there"
He rubbed his thumb against your rosy cheeks. "I'll always be there for you"
