Part two in sculpting. So after the shape is complete through lathing and fiber coat. We throw on all the finish coat. Once it sets a small amount we hit it with the appropriate textured roller as a base. Essentially preparing it for stamping and carving. This is an important step, without it the stamping doesn't come out as well. After rolling with brush out all the edges, making sure it becomes seamless. So the number one request for the next series of posts is sculpting! Slightly more difficult now since we are not able to build anything during this shut down. That being said we do have 35 years of photos to pull from and last year we did a pretty cool cave. We sculpt on two different ways. The main way is with panels as seen here. We cut these pieces to meet the design intent. Then we lath each panel together giving us our shape, with the intent to stitch these pieces together without noticing. The next step is seen here, our special polymesh design is made to be flexible and high impact. Once hardened we have no longer have to worry about the shape and we can concentrate on the texture and the carving. Which I'll post later this week. Layer 2 is the first with Polymesh Fiber mixed in. A spray pattern is chosen and the entire panel is coated, compressed and then repeated. The expression it's all in the details is our daily mantra. We utilize moulds from real rock to get these fine details and then our artists job is to match on all seams. For the flat work nothing seems to work better than these little hopper guns! Zero chance of it ever spraying our fibercoat but for the facecoat not too shabby! Just need some finishing touches and this little pond is all ready! Nice little Aquajet 1300 from @aquascape_inc powering the Bell fountain on the deep end. These set in place submersible pumps really give a lot of flexibility for add-ons without having to worry about plumbing!
