you should read: our dreams at dusk
Since it’s Pride Month, I thought it would be fitting to recommend one of my favourite manga of all time, Our Dreams at Dusk (or Shimanami Tasogare) which is a wonderfully wholesome, evocative and grounded LGBTQ manga.
The series is set in modern Japan and revolves around a discussion lounge filled with LGBTQ folks from various walks of life and Tasuku Kaname, a closeted gay teenager who despairs that he may have been involuntarily outed.
Now, some notable points about the series!
This is the coolest 50cc bike I‘ve ever seen and I want it so bad

I need to rant about something real quick, so stay with me.
So I saw a poll on here earlier today where the op was asking people if they would be “good queer representation”. I mean absolutely no offense to the op because I’m sure they meant no ill will by it, but reading that post and then some of the comments infuriated me a bit.
Not because people were being hateful, but because of how many people were saying that they wouldn’t be “good queer representation” because they were aroace in a relationship or something of the like. And it just upset me because why do we as a society believe that this is bad queer representation.
And it made me realize that I would not fulfill many people’s definition of good queer representation. Because I am a trans woman that uses she/her pronouns but still presents as a man due to a variety of social and economic reasons. I am a trans woman that has lots of very masculine hobbies and mannerisms.
And I receive judgement for that. I receive judgement for not being people’s perfect vision of a trans person. I sometimes feel like I have no home in any community. Among straight people, I’m too queer to fit in or be comfortable with them. Among queer people, I’m not queer enough; I don’t fit how they believe a trans person should be and behave.
I feel like I’m not welcome with anyone and it fucking sucks. The fact that even queer people judge based on if you fit a good queer narrative is incredibly upsetting.
Sorry for ranting, this is just something that upsets me a fuck ton and I felt the need to share.
