A bit late to publish this custom functional dessert due to my real life schedule. Mid-Autumn Festival 2025 was celebrated on Monday, October 6, 2025.

What is Yuebing (English translation = Mooncake)?

In ancient times, mooncakes were a kind of offering to the moon. Over the centuries, these special cakes have become the most popular food of the Mid-Autumn Festival. They are named after the moon goddess (Chang'e), who is said to make this kind of cake.

In Chinese culture, roundness symbolizes completeness and togetherness. A full moon symbolizes prosperity and reunion for the whole family. Round mooncakes complement the harvest moon in the night sky at the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Can non-Chinese eat them?

Yes, anyone can eat Yuebing, regardless of their ethnicity. Yuebing are enjoyed globally as a delicacy. In this The Sims game, your Sims can eat Yuebing without worrying about the high sugar level, no matter what the Sims' ethnicity and nationality, Sims can eat Yuebing everyday.

Why the name is LianRong DanHuang YueBing?

Oreo Cheesecake No-Bake Snowskin Mooncakes

Snow-skin dough:

50g glutinous rice flour

40gr rice flour

20g wheat starch (sub cornstarch)

40g powdered sugar

180 ml water

20g cooking oil

Oreo Filing:

102g Oreo cookies (about 9)

140g cream cheese (soft)

Instructions:

Toast 30g of glutinous rice flour and toast until nutty. Let cool.

Chunk up the cookies using a food processor, knife, or smush. Combine with cream cheese. Cover and chill while you prepare the dough.

Shape into 25-gram balls. (can be less)

Prepare the dough:

Combine all ingredients in a heat-proof mixing bowl.

Place batter in steamer and steam over high heat for 15 min. Wrap the lid of the steamer with a cloth to prevent condensation from dripping into the dough. Stir to form a large mass of dough.

Continue to fold and knead dough until smooth and elastic.

Molding:

Portion dough into 25 grams. Flatten and stretch with your fingers about 4 inches.

Roll dough in toasted flour and dust off excess.

Place filling in middle and wrap around it. Plce into mould cavity, press to imprint.

Notes:

09/15/2024 - Freezes well, apparently. Can be kept for up to 1 month. Made this with Ted but they didn't turn out so great.

He was young when he crossed the rainbow bridge. Born in April 2020, but lost unexpectedly on Thanksgiving Day 2020.

Yuebing ('Mooncake' in Chinese) was a perfect companion, forcing me to stay alert and motivated. There was no sleeping my weekends away with him around. He did not allow me to give in to depression and created a ruckus until I tended to him each day.

I was not allowed to slack off - yet I strangely didn't mind his nagging. Nothing felt like a chore and it brightened my day to see Roux (my dog) and him playing together.

He's been missed dearly and his absence has been hard. It's back to having just enough energy to work and perhaps eat before going to sleep for the next day.

The Mid-Autumn Festival started more than 2,000 years ago as a post-autumn harvest celebration, which was devoted to thanking the gods. Most scholars believe that the Mid-autumn Festival first appeared during the Song dynasty, derived from the tradition of worshipping the moon. Legends associated with the full moon became attached to this festival. It was during the reign of Emperor Tai (Northern Song dynasty) that the 15th day of the eighth month was designated as mid-autumn's day.(Source: nlb.gov.sg)

According to Chinese folklore, a Turpan businessman offered cakes to Emperor Taizong of Tang in his victory against the Xiongnu on the fifteenth day of the eighth Chinese lunisolar month. Taizong took the round cakes and pointed to the moon with a smile, saying, "I'd like to invite the toad to enjoy the hú (胡) cake."
