2025年中秋節快樂!
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival 2025!
The Mid-Autumn Festival started more than 2,000 years ago as a post-autumn harvest celebration, which was devoted to thanking the gods. Most scholars believe that the Mid-autumn Festival first appeared during the Song dynasty, derived from the tradition of worshipping the moon. Legends associated with the full moon became attached to this festival. It was during the reign of Emperor Tai (Northern Song dynasty) that the 15th day of the eighth month was designated as mid-autumn's day.(Source: nlb.gov.sg)
According to Chinese folklore, a Turpan businessman offered cakes to Emperor Taizong of Tang in his victory against the Xiongnu on the fifteenth day of the eighth Chinese lunisolar month. Taizong took the round cakes and pointed to the moon with a smile, saying, "I'd like to invite the toad to enjoy the hú (胡) cake." After sharing the cakes with his ministers, the custom of eating these hú cakes spread throughout the country. (Source: Wikipedia)
Over time, the association between mooncakes and the full moon became stronger. They have become a significant symbol of family reunion and blessings during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Every year, people gather, share mooncakes, and admire the bright moon, symbolizing family togetherness and prayers for good fortune. Mooncakes have also become a traditional gift during the Mid-Autumn Festival, with people exchanging them as a way to express blessings and sentiments.

Snow skin mooncakes are a non-baked variation of the traditional Chinese pastry, characterized by their soft, translucent, and chewy, mochi-like outer layer made from glutinous rice flour. Unlike traditional mooncakes, they are served chilled, have a delicate texture, and can be filled with a variety of sweet pastes like lotus, red bean, or custard, as well as modern flavors like matcha and fruit. Originating in Hong Kong, they offer a lighter and fresher taste compared to their baked counterparts.
