Is this free real-estate for sharing stories about how strangers misjudge our ages? when i was in high school i was sometimes asked what year of college i was starting (to be fair, I was usually asked this on a college campus, where my dad is a prof), and now that I'm in *grad school* I get asked what year of high school I'm going into!! And I'm 70% sure its in part because I still have acne.

Baby boomers will see a person with acne and ask “is this a teenager?”

Hello, I just discovered this project yesterday, and oh my gog am I enjoying it. I just reached the part where Rose tells Dave she's finally going to play the rain, and as much as it made sense in the comic for her to totally skip all her quests, it makes me really happy to see her return to them. They get to play a game, in a simpler way. And all the dialogue feels so true to the characters. Thank you for making this!

Hard to say.... there are Good Place employees and Bad Place employees who do seem to differ a bit by fundamental nature (Vicky, for example, is a flaming acid snake if you take off her human suit) and Bad Place employees are sometimes referred to as demons, but I don’t remember Good Place employees being referred to as angels at all.

Oh man, so yeah, medieval nuns seemed kinda thirsty about Jesus sometimes, at least by modern standards. I took a class in college about medieval hagiography (written accounts of saints’ lives) and sometimes they got really weird (in many ways -- self-flagellation and torture, fasting, drinking of body fluids, all types of oddball stuff, really...)

The first thing I have to say about thirstiness in these hagiographies is that the relationship with Jesus was often personal. For some of these female saints, it wasn’t just an abstract idea of being chaste in these written accounts. Instead, they thought of themselves as married to Jesus Christ, and referred to him as “the bridegroom.” They’d talk with him directly and have visions of him. One of the saints had a vivid vision where Jesus gave her a pearl encrusted golden wedding band which was invisible to everyone but her (sugar daddy Jesus coming for ya)

It seems as if these saints would spend a lot of their days fantasizing about Christ. Here’s a quote that basically sums up how spicy these could often get. This is from the Latin Vita of a saint called Christina of Markyate:

“[Christ] came to the arms of his sorely tried spouse and remained with her for a whole day, not only being felt but also seen. So the maiden took Him in her hands, gave thanks, and held Him to her bosom. And with immeasurable delight she held Him to her virginal breast, at another she felt His presence within her even through the barrier of her flesh. Who shall describe the abounding sweetness with which the servant was filled by the condescension of her creator? From that moment the fire of lust was so extinguished that it never afterwards could be revived.”

That’s just one example; I’d grab more but medieval Vitae can be painful to read... I still have all the PDFs from class on my computer though.

Hey this might be out of nowhere but thanks for what you wrote about “post John green era” tumblr. I remember back when he was popular on here and I loved the vlogbrothers and I feel ashamed by association for what happened to him but I’m really bad at putting it into words. Also just knowing I’m not the only one who finds what happened wrong is comforting. So yeah, thanks.

Awww, thank you so much! It's something that was really frustrating to me at the time, and still is, so it's super heartening to see so many people who feel the same way! It doesn't change what happened, but I like to hope that maybe this kind of thing will be less likely to happen in the future, now that in hindsight more people seem to be realizing how messed-up and unfair it was.
