It amuses me to think that in some au Yuu is not experiencing love triangles and love squares and love polygons and polycules of increasing sides but there be custody battles between:

the ghosts (they were there first! Crowley doesn't count! +Skully is there which historically makes the ghost group by association the first!)

Crewel (favorite student, why can't the other whelps with magic try half as hard as them? he is clearly feigning reluctance getting involved only because if everyone else is going to go for it, he'd rather make sure they end up with someone he can trust to do it right, which of course, is him)

Lilia (Friend of his sons! Why not have another kid? They aren't as fragile as a baby, he's sure he could do it! What do you mean he has empty nest syndrome and Yuu is there and vulnerable)

Dilah (that is her son's best friend and a good influence who is homeless! there may not be official paperwork but she would take them in. She'd be glad to host them during breaks and they can stay under her roof after graduation while they figure out what to do.)

the Shrouds (if Ortho thinks Idia is unlikely to help them with a certain wish it's time to move up the chain of command! Magicless humans can thrive at STYX! And it would be fun to have another sibling! And even harder for Idia to isolate!)

Fellow (because Gidel got attached to the fellow magicless who is also helping look after him at Ramshackle and if Fellow ever jumps off the reformation wagon Gidel will be miserable if the kid doesn't come with that is the only reason)

Neige (b/c it's funny and I'm sure he had some hand raising/providing for 7 dwarves of his age or younger all on his own and is too soft for his own good and i think it would be interesting if he had a savior complex at the ripe age of 17)

I think the presence of Skully's ghost revealing the existence of a Book that lets you enter another world and leave it without your memories of your time in said book could cause great distress to Yuu. What if all of Twisted Wonderland is some book?

Twisted Wonderland has its own rules and has magic and fantastical things so bizarre compared to their own world, yet so perfectly reasonable for a story.

Yuu's gonna fear losing it all if they ever go home.

Can't sleep, thought in brain, writing headcanony perhaps mildly Yuu-shippy thoughts down before I forget

Neige and Kalim join an exchange program between RSA and NRC. For friendly public relations between the two schools of Sage Islands. See, NRC is doing fine and its students are nice and not bitter at all despite the losing streak. See, RSA is perfectly friendly and not bullying its neighboring academy.

Kalim signs up for independence. Probably behind Jamil's back. If even princes go there, it's gotta be safe, right? He'll be fine, he even has a cousin there to help look after him! (He has been sneaking to Ramshackle behind Jamil's back to learm basic chores so he should be able to survive. Probably.)

Neige signs up for a bit of freedom. He feels a little guilty about leaving the dwarves behind but he just wants to try being on his own for a bit somewhere other than a stage. It's been a while since he's had that kind of peace. The dwarves support this wholeheartedly- they aren't little kids anymore! He still feels terribly guilty though.

Kalim heads to RSA and his distant cousin's sleepy state reminds him a bit of Silver. He's well-liked enough, though his generosity gets a little grating sometimes. He's no nouveau riche but it's a little insulting to try to pay for things when others can easily afford it too. He tries to join the music club at first, but they focus on classical rather than the pop he's used to. The ballroom dancing PE's a bit dull for him. The etiquette class is probably useful, though he also struggles to focus on it.

Jamil calls every night and Kalim's more proud to show off his chores than his homework. He misses the study sessions at Ramshackle and asks that group chat more than he asks Jamil for help, or just asks Yuu since they don't judge. He promises to head to the library and send pics of info that might be useful to them going homewise, but is a little slow on the delivery. He is genuinely busy trying to get by on his own, but he also worries just a little that Yuu might not chat as much with him once they have that. He can wholeheartedly order those books for them once he's back at NRC, after he's able to hang out with everyone again.

Kalim does manage to adapt and adjust and becomes something of a lively presence who classmates will miss, but he looks very forward to returning to NRC.

Kalim gets a nice guest/visitor room in the RSA main building. Neige gets Ramshackle. He was mildly afraid that he wouldn't know his own soul if he took the Dark Mirror screening as was offered. He's glad to see Yuu, a familiar face even if they only met briefly.

He likes Ramshackle better than the dorms. Than his own dorm back at RSA even. It's homelier, reminds him of his and the dwarves' cottage. It's bigger though, lonelier too. He's glad Yuu's around. They have little polite fights like who makes breakfast and who does chores because Yuu doesn't want their guest to do it/Neige doesn't want his host to do the whole building by themself (and both like the business of it to avoid anxiety about thinking of other things). Neige gets attached to Yuu and Grim pretty fast he is too used to keeping an eye over his seven friends and Yuu and Grim slowly expand to concern about the other first-years as well.

There are occasional attempts to "swipe" Neige from Yuu bc cute celeb is at NRC and hanging out with that magicless weirdo? Seriously? He politely declines such offers, especially when accompanied with backhanded compliments to Yuu. He likes Yuu. Probably biased from them being his go-to contact but he likes them! They seemed nice at the VDC and they still are, ever the support figure despite their manager role. Shouldn't they have someone supporting them too? (They have their friends but. The crush goggles. The hero complex of a seventeen year old who is also projecting. They need help!)

One way or another he learns about their situation and oh dear, they're so far from home! They have a friend already looking around the RSA archives but he'd be happy to help too! They and Grim can even stay with him over the summer or winter breaks if they want! It's totally safe, there's magic security to make sure the paparazzi never get to it! It's the least he can do after they've been so nice to him!

The first years are very unimpressed and disapproving and Vil especially so. It's temporary, Yuu says every time, while Neige in the throes of teen's-first-non-celeb-crush-after-a-decade's-plus-years-of-parentification and has little daydreams and delusions about domesticity as they share chores and hang out. He probably ends up gushing about his crush to a rather disgruntled Vil who must hide his disdain toward this cherubic, irritatingly-saccharine thorn in his side and sight whenever they meet or share a class.

Anyway basically anywhere from a week to a few months Kalim and Neige swap for a while.

Something something Grim giving his wishing star to Yuu because Yuu's already going to make his wish of being a great magician come true right? His minion is the one who needs all the help they can get.

Something something (A)Deuce collecting every wishing star of NRC students who don't care about Starsending to give to Yuu. They can't activate it on their own so they'll help Yuu light them up.

Something something between wishing to go home and for their friends' success and happiness and their own safety, Yuu wishing during Starsending that if they can't go home, they'd wish to have a little sibling like Ortho. Because their parents loved being parents and will miss them, and Ortho seems very sweet, and they would like it if their parents could get over them and be able to have another kid, whether by blood or adoption, who could be so thoughtful. It would also just be fun to have a little sibling like Ortho if they do get home, since he's nice and tries and does make his big brother happy.

Something something Ortho's overhears and remembers and after Book 6 when he's in the first year friend group, Ortho be pestering Idia to seduce befriend Yuu so he and Yuu can be in-laws lmao

I think Silver said he doesn't remember his dreams often(?) but I imagine there must have been a time when Silver was young and couldn't quite pick out dreams from reality and Lilia would say "it's been a while since we ate this" and Silver would say "we ate that yesterday Father." Or Lilia says stuff like let's go up the mountain and Silver would ask didn't they just do that? Silver will be up to do chores even though the house was just cleaned or be staring intently at his sleeve, so sure he tore it somewhere the other day when no such thing has happened as far as Lilia's memory goes.

Then Silver's UM kicks in and the occasional, particularly mundane dream now shared between them has Lilia pondering whether his son is unintentionally gaslighting him or if his age is getting to him.

Have a shenanigans. In the Ghost Engagement au, Skully may be Yuu's fiance as far as spectral marriage rules are concerned and he does care about them a lot, but he also wholeheartedly supports them getting together with any of their nice young living peers.

He's haunting the campus with mistletoe and Yuu's dragging a bouquet's worth around by now as they snatch every sprig that descends ever-so-slowly from an invisible hand between them and whoever they're talking to who is remotely on Skully's "Groom candidates for Yuu" list. He just keeps miraculously producing more of the devilish plants, ready to be goading whisper in the wind.

They manage to hide them from Kalim (with Jamil's help) and enlists Deuce's aid (not without first flustering Deuce with the explanation of the tradition) which keeps any mistletoe out of the other Heartslabyuls' sight. Ace thinks this is hilarious and isn't particularly keen on helping. Rook would be useful with his ability to shoot them right out of Skully's hand if the guy would just stop composing poetry about tragic love between the living and the dead and eulogizing that lovely mistletoe that inspires love with its sacrifice. Epel also thinks it is funny but gets competitive about collecting the most twigs and help because of that mostly. Jack might be of more help if Skully didn't have the other ghosts scattering and replacing the sprigs everywhere for the mischief of the whole thing. Ortho is unfortunately busy trying to drag Idia out into this mistletoe-laden hellscape because exposure to such affectionate acts, no matter how chaste or superficial, could lead to bonding and friendship!

Yuu fails to get the stupid plant away from Sebek' sight before Lilia swoops in. The fae remarks on the tradition and kisses Yuu and Sebek on the nose/cheek before either can do anything about it. Lilia playfully laments about his poor, cute, cold, neglected heart when Yuu and Sebek refuse to return the gesture and Yuu sighs and moves in to kiss his cheek before Skully tries to spin them to face Sebek because no, Yuu, Lilia is too old for you, turn a little to the left-!

Malleus arrives to a mess of human shields and snowballs and mistletoe because the other first-years and perhaps some others were drawn into the commotion. Sebek is conscripted almost immediately into trying to find Skully and Yuu and mistletoe them because Malleus was promised an invitation to his fellow Gargoyle Club members' (hypothetical) wedding (should it occur, which even if it did won't be anytime soon because Yuu would die in the union) and it would please him greatly to see any progress on that front.

It's funny to me that twst has no less than 4 characters who are older than they look.

Malleus who is in his 170s

Old man Lilia reaching his 700s

Silver who spent 4 centuries asleep.

Skully who died after living a full life but the twst devs didn't want to make assets to oldmanify him like Vil so his ghost looks 16.
