Me in the grocery store explaining the plot of both MHA and Yesterday Upon the Stair and why YUtS is better than canon to my mother in the grocery store
Okay, so I meant to ask this when I saw you tag something as Yuts coded, because I love Yesterday Upon The Stair, so;
How would things have gone in Bad Miracle with YUTS Deku? Would both parents be around as ghosts? How would he tell Hinata?
So.
Pit and I have been friends for a good while actually. There have been Discussions about this exact topic.
To start with, Hinata couldn’t exist in YUTS verse because Hisashi died when Izuku was very small, and his ghost didn’t stick around super long. There’s no telling if he was a better or worse man, since he wasn’t around long enough to see his son get labeled quirkless, but he had an overall positive impact on his family because it was his ghost tucking his son in that laid the groundwork for Inko to believe her baby about the things he sees.
Hinataverse however would be a juicy mess if you dropped YUTS Deku into it.
To start with, Hisashi’s ghost would have hung around until the exact moment Inko and Izuku walked into the funeral—and then he would have blipped right out of existence to escape the wrath of his spectral wife, who is now going full poltergeist with rage. Amane is not a peaceful spirit. Not at all.
This is a huge fucking problem because YUTS Deku canonically makes ghosts stronger by being around them. He makes them able to interact with the world more. He gives them the ability to become solid, even, if he wishes. And for a normal angry ghost their effect on their still living family is minimal, but with the Deku buff they can start legitimately haunting in a way that’s distressing. Detrimental to the living, even. And. That is not ideal when Amane is exclusively lingering around her daughter. Her traumatized and incredibly distressed daughter.
There is no way he could tell her her mother is still here, because that would just make her already complicated grief worse. He can’t even be near her much because he doesn’t want to make Amane capable of trashing her surroundings or hurting anyone she’s mad at.
Which is a shame, because Hinata seems like a good kid.
(If he’s dropped into her teen years there’s even more juicy stuff, but that’s all spoilers. That said the dynamic between YUTS Deku and Hinata would be so fucking bonkers. Insane levels of ability to bounce bullshit back and forth and discuss grisly ass topics. They are both deep into the same esoteric games about loss. They are also rabid little fucking animals who throw hands and bite people.)
Been re-reading my all time fav bnha fic, “Yesterday Upon the Stair” by @pitviperofdoom and was compelled to doodle some fanart at work today
Finished binding Yesterday Upon the Stair by @pitviperofdoom

I did a thousand page tome for myself but also made a more manageable two volume edition (with a slip case!) and now I cant wait to read it again!!
huh. if i had a nickel for every time a fanfic author announced they were actively writing the sequel to my favorite fic from a fandom i'm not in anymore, I'd have two nickels. which is frankly very exciting!! loveluckylost is three chapters into a Counting Down midqual AU where Connie and Lars interact with the Crystal Gems, AND PitViperOfDoom is actively working on another 4-shot YUTS sequel lets goooooo
just finished reading Yesterday upon the Stair again lmao
i love Rei to an ungodly degree.
so I did a lil doodle of a giggly Rei :')
forgive me for bible belt & niche interest posting, but i think part of why me & a few other southerners im friends with enjoyed the southern reach book authority is because it plays subconsciously into the inherent horror & grief of understanding that the ground you stand on will probably be gone or at least entirely changed within a mere few years. jeff vandermeer is a floridian environmentalist, and while you can tell that through his books' worship of ecosystems, i feel you can also percieve it through how area x is a metaphor for its climate change. control is the perspective of a man who, even when moving forward to do what he can (in a government office job), has this inherent disjointed, numb-yet-about-to-panic view of the world he knows being in danger of something unfathomable. he is walking in what will soon be a ghost of a land. maybe, since the colonization of america and his father's family, he always has been. as the first book annihilation says, "desolation tries to colonize you".
the book reminds me of a quote by yuts, the man who created norco (a near-apocalyptic game set in louisiana): "we’re moving back to new orleans this summer after being away for a few years and knowing that it’s not necessarily a place we can settle, or it’s not a wise investment to stay there long term, is a difficult thing to factor into decision-making. but nonetheless, we want to be there for a while. we want to experience it. there’s something inherent in louisiana where you have to be present."
