Life has been crazy lately; otherwise, I would've done this sooner. But I commissioned the lovely @azarya-s to paint two portraits of @zacksfairest's OC Krelyss for @editoress's Christmas gift. But it's really a team effort and a gift to us all because look at this sad, noble widow!

Okay but I am still obsessed with the idea of Vaela going to visit Ori back home. Partially for Ori herself. Partially to get a chance to chat with her brother some more. I still think about that from time to time

YESSS I think about this a lot, too. In fact, I have a few thoughts of my own:

Firstly,  I imagine that after the ball, Hester approached Vaela when Ori wasn't around and asked if she basically wanted to be pen pals. Because he's a dork and doesn't have fancy magic speaking stones. Basically the equivalent of "here's my number text me if you want to"  while trying to be smooth about it and probably failing a bit. But at the very least he is trying to make it low-pressure for her.

At some point Ori would get a hint of what was going on and would absolutely be a driving force behind Vaela getting an invitation to come down to the coast for a beach vacation and to meet the family. Hester would get teased endlessly and he would be hopelessly outnumbered by the girls.

I feel like Vaela would enjoy spending time with Oriana’s family. Her mom, Maia, would make Vaela something nice to wear as a gift, and the middle sibling, Asta, has a lot of similar tastes to Vaela and would definitely take her shopping.

At some point during this whole event, Hester would get the idea to take Vaela out on a walk and picnic dinner out by the ocean (but still within view of the city, since he's given a few light warnings from Ori just in case Vaela might not be super comfortable being totally alone with him just yet), right before the sun sets and the evening stars begin to come out. He would probably just want to talk and laugh with her, maybe dance again without a crowd of people around them. Or if she's feeling adventurous, he's got one cool Find Steed spell up his sleeve and they can go for a ride down the beach. And maybe if things go well, he'd extend an invitation for her to visit him whenever she wants in Tyados' capital city...

KICKS IN YOUR DOOR 💋+ COBALT

You don’t say anything when you arrive.  You never have to.  Cobalt would have noticed your presence long before you could perceive him, and from here he can hear your very heartbeat.  You make every attempt to keep it steady.  He studies his map, tracing paths with long, thin, pale fingers.  Finally, he orders, “Tell me.”

“Nothing,” you reply.  You will your heart to slow down.  “They’re missing.  Not as in we missed them, as in--they’re not where they’re supposed to be.”

“Oh,” he says mildly.  There’s a slight quirk to his lips.  He can’t be... enjoying this, can he?  You thought you were bringing bad news.  “I see.  How violently did they go missing?”

And see, how did he know that?  “We’re also, uh, missing some scouts.”

“Mm.”  He straightens and puts one finger to his lips, gaze still fixed on the map.  Without looking at you, he holds out a hand.

Woodenly, you approach and offer your own hand, palm up.  He leans over the delicate inside of your wrist and inhales.  “How exciting,” he sighs thoughtfully.  “And yet how busy all this keeps me.”  At last, he looks you in the eye with a half-lidded hint of a smile.  “All work and no play.”

You wish he would just bite you or let you go, but he enjoys this part, winding up your anxiety, waiting to see how long you’ll leave your puny mortal hand in his loose grasp.  To your credit, you stay still.  “Yeah, well.  As long as you don’t mind noodle shop blood.  I’m not exactly a port-and-caviar drow.”

His lips press together in his amused daylight smile, when the humans around him are terminally oblivious to his capabilities.  His cool thumb strokes the back of your hand.  “Don’t fret, my dear.  What you may lack in flavor, you make up for in presentation.”

“Thanks?”  And because you are struggling not to snatch your hand back, you add, “Are you... going to have any, or...”

He tilts his head, gaze sharpening.  You don’t think you had his full attention until right now.  “Don’t you find it tedious to get straight to business?”

You don’t want to answer.  But when his grip tightens, you manage, “Not when I’m the one being played with.”

At once, he relaxes again into his usual faint smile.  “Therein lies the problem,” he observes.  He draws you closer, and the terrifying path of least resistance leads you nearly against him.  “My dear, you must learn to enjoy the game.”

Cobalt is generous: you get your wish.  He bites down.

NO IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOME GOOD MILITARY SHIT TO WATCH!! I just finished an australian mini-series on Amazon Prime called Gallipoli about the battle of Gallipoli in WWI. So im definitely gonna put that on my list to watch next

ok just to warn you its...intense. like emotionally intense. and VERY dark humor. but also very real and less romanticized than band of brothers or even the pacific. real to the point of being painful to watch in parts, i cried a fair number of times. but the main character is both empathetic and an asshole. (and hugh laurie steals the entire dang series with his few scenes LOL) also sadly I don’t have amazon prime or i would totally try that mini series :(
