While Sabrina Carpenter was on stage during Coachella (about to play the piano and start another song), someone did a Zaghrouta (a trill/a sound of joy and celebration in Arabic culture).
Sabrina stopped and asked if someone was yodeling. The person specified that it was an Arabic call of celebration, that it's their culture.
Sabrina responded by saying (quote) "I don't like it. That's your culture is yodeling? Is this Burning Man? What's going on? This is weird." (end quote).
Sabrina then (quote unquote) "apologized".
She first said she couldn't hear clearly. But she was able to understand the person without struggling to listen.
Then, she said she now knows what a Zaghrouta is but continues to call it a yodel. The last sentence of her (quote unquote) "apology" is (quote) "I welcome all cheers and yodels from here on out" (end quote).

There should be zero discourse over what Sabrina Carpenter said during her Coachella performance. If you don’t know, during Sabrina’s set a fan did a trill. A zaghruta specifically from what I’ve seen. Sabrina stops and is like “What is that?” to which the fan responds that it is them basically praising her. The trill was a sign of joy. Sabrina then proceeds to say that she doesn’t like it and the fan says that it is part of their culture. Sabrina then proceeds to ask “Yodeling is part of your culture?” Like how disrespectful can you be? It didn’t matter if she was joking or being “sarcastic” like she claimed in her “apology”. Jokes have to actually be funny and sarcasm is still disrespectful. You can not use quirkiness as an excuse for everything. What Sabrina said and did was in fact racist. And before anyone starts: I SAID THE ACT WAS RACIST. NOT HER. As a white woman she is not immune to doing or saying something racist. She didn’t have to stop and she didn’t have to say anything, but she did both. What comes out of her mouth next is her fault and her fault alone. Ignorance or not. The fan literally said it was part of her culture. That alone should have made it click that what she said and did next could be either accepting or alienating. She chose to alienate and disrespect that fan. Point blank period.
Yes, Sabrina was racist.
"This is weird."
Yes. She was racist.
Her not knowing of Zaghrouta wasn't offensive. Her making a weird face after the fans tell her it's their culture and calling it "weird" is indeed offensive. It is not that hard to understand, is it now?
Before anyone tells me "it's not that deep" IT IS A BIT FUCKING DEEP TO CALL A CULTURAL ELEMENT WEIRD.
Before anyone tells me "the fans were being loud and disturbing her"...it's coachella. A place where people do drugs and do all sort of shit. Are you telling me a kind of chanting is the weird thing there? Coachella isn't a formal event where people have to be prim and proper. A lot of people travel to attend.
Sabrinas team removed posts online criticising her. That tells me a lot of her nature. Her apology was still lacking in my opinion.
I have been seeing many defend her and say they weren't offended....of course you weren't offended. Most of you defending her are western fans. White fans. *deep sigh*
You guys can say whatever you want about the Sabrina Carpenter thing of how it’s super offensive or people overreacting stuff like that. But the one thing I fear that you all forget, especially when a celebrity does something that might offend a group of people is that if they apologize and it’s not your apology to accept. Like it’s not your culture or anything, it’s not for you to decide what’s acceptable of that culture to tolerate of someone that says something that could hurt them whether they like it or not.
She could have written the apology better, but if you’re not Arab or middle eastern, don’t accept her apology or say she’s forgiven when she didn’t do anything to you
I just believe the girl who performed the "zaggrouta" (or what we call her tzaghrita or twerwila) was super brave, she must have trusted Sabrina Carpenter thinking her concert wasa safe space to share her culture and then Sabrina went on to mock it despite her explanation that it's her cultural heritage, a lot of people are saying it wasn't the appropriate timing to do it? And that zaghrouta was reserved for wedding parties, that's wrong for many reasons and ignorant. For one, Sabrina wasn't offended to be interrupted, she was weirded out by a culture and made it seem alien and foreign in a bad way? Like she could have said it wasn't the time for it and she was being interrupted but she didn't, if it was just people screaming or whistling she would have a different reaction or none at all. Secondly, Tzaghrit is an expression of pride and joy, when my people foight for their freedom and were martyred, the women would do tzaghrit (zaghrouta) to express their pride and sadness in a way over their departed loved ones, so if funerals and wars were an appropriate time, concerts definitely are (they are popular in our concerts anyways).
And to be fair, the reaction of anybody towards any culture should be like wtf? This is your culture? Weirdo, esp not a popstar, regardless of said culture. She did ask if it was the burning man? Maybe she was afraid it was some red neck Yankees? That's one way to explain it, I'm glad she apologized afterwards, but people saying Mena people's reaction was disproportionate and that they're making a big deal out of nothing should shut up and sit down and let us simply express ourselves however we'd like and defend our culture.
every time an arab woman does a zaghrouta sabrina carpenter bursts into flames
That stinking, backward, racist white bitch is having her racist reaction used by other racists to create racist memes. This is hardly surprising, because Sabrina is specifically catering to this kind of people (republicans) who are just as sexually deviant as she is. She's a pedophile who asked a 16-year-old girl if she felt horny, and she's a racist whore who fetishizes black men. She's a blonde, uncultured whore. Not only that, but other white women are defending her (because they're racist too and sympathize with her) and feel like they have some authority over Arabs and how they should feel, not to mention infantalizing her, because she's just a poor, blonde widdle white woman 🥺. Her apology is insincere; she only apologized because of the backlash. If she were sincere, she would have apologized immediately after making that racist comment. And don't even think about saying, "she didn't hear the person who said it was their culture," because you certainly don't repeat something you didn't hear. We need to be more vicious with mid-ass white women and hold them accountable.
Thinking about it, the mbf album cover is truly genius; she's kneeling because she knows she's a dog, but unfortunately she doesn't know her place yet and needs to be taught that.
God, I despise white people.
