Prophet Muhammaf Sall Allahu Aleijhiwasallam didn't celebrate his own birthday how are y'all supposed to.
Actually, the Prophet, صلى الله عليه وسلم, did commemorate his own birthday. When he was asked about why he fasts Mondays, he said, as narrated by Imam Muslim:
ذلِكَ يَوْمٌ وُلِدْتُ فِيهِ وَأُنْزِلَ عَلَيَّ فِيهِ
“This is the day on which I was born and the day on which I received the Revelation.”
The scholars deduced from that that it is a good thingto do good things always on the day he was born. And from that it is known thatcelebrating the birth of the Prophet is something good that has its roots fromthe Religion. The Prophet, صلى الله عليه وسلم, ordered the Muslims to fast the day of Monday because it is the day inwhich he was born, because by this one would be thanking Allaah for thisendowment. And this is what we do in al-Mawlid, and what happens on the day of celebrating the birthof the Prophet are originally matters which the Religion praises. During the Mawlid the Muslims reciteal-Qur'an, praise theProphet and mention his biography and the story of his birth, make dhikr, and feed the people for the sake of Allaah, and all of these deeds are good deeds done with the good intention. All of that is done inthanking Allaah for that day. And in this Hadith it indicates for the person to repeat the act of fasting every Monday, to keep repeating that every Monday. And we repeat that everyyear. So it is known from thatthat it is a good thing to do again and again good deeds on the daythat he was born. This explanation and deduction was explicitly mentioned by al Hafidh as-Suyuutiyy, and others.
And Allaah Knows best.
You got the best of both worlds.
