Zero Effect (1998) dir. Jake Kasdan
For all those getting into Bill Pullman's filmography after falling madly in love with Lewis:
Go and watch "Zero Effect" It's on Prime and YouTube, I think, and not only is it Lewis's favorite movie of his dad's (My favorite too), but girlies (GN) he looks like this:
Is his character a good musician?
No
Is he stable and healthy?
Absolutely not.
Man is a pill-popping, coke snorting, disguise-wearing, Ben Stiller-Annoying Sherlock Holmes who falls in love a woman so Lesbian-Coded it had me almost convinced that his character is meant to be a trans woman whose egg hasn't cracked yet, and I fucking love him.
Look at him all curled up with his little book and cozy clothes, he's so fucking Bob-Coded I could puke.
Go watch the movie
(Post edited somewhat do to missing words because I am a goober who doesn't proof-read before hitting Post)

FILMS WATCHED IN 2026: ZERO EFFECT (1998) DIR. JAKE KASDAN
Movie of the Day: "Zero Effect"
This movie is seriously underrated. I remember going to see this in the theater when it was released on January 30, 1998, with a *small* audience.
Bill Pullman stars as Daryl Zero, a private detective who solves crimes from his home and only contacts his clients through an intermediary, Steve Arlo (played by Ben Stiller). It's something of a modern spin on the Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin dynamic, but Zero is a shut-in that the movie mainly labels as "misanthropic," "socially maladroit" and "quirky," but through a modern context he seems more like someone with severe agoraphobia and social anxiety. Maybe those are the same thing.
The movie--the feature debut of director Jake Kasdan--flopped in theaters and garnered mixed reviews. Underrated. Maybe it was before its time, now that quirky and cozy detective stories are popular again.
