When you empty your cabinet and find this many plastic bags, you know you have a problem. This was 3 years ago. We thought we were being good by saving old shopping bags for various household purposes. BUT when you look at the statistics, even reusing doesn’t sound so helpful. It takes 500-1,000 years for one of those plastic bags to degrade. This means our kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and even great-great grandkids will be affected by what we do now. Tommy and I slowly transitioned to reusable shopping bags by collecting fabric bags that we already had and purchasing new ones (often for as little as $1) as needed. Now, we have a whole arsenal! I always keep a bag in my backpack or purse for those quick, unexpected, “honey I forgot the almond milk” grocery runs. • Make an effort this week to bring those reusable bags into the store with you. Some stores will even PAY you for using your own bags! @TraderJoes gives you a raffle ticket for a giftcard… not that I’ve ever won, but still, the possibility is exciting. • What have been your biggest #ZeroWasteRevelations?
