鲛绡碧 | Jiao Xiao Bi Starring: Zhang Bohan, Leng Jiyuan, Xu Yuan, Zhu Xi, Zheng Nan… Release Date: November 18, 2019 Airtime: 65 minutes

So this movie. This (BL) movie I found through some research after seeing one of @xiao-zhan‘s posts… There’s absolutely NO INFO you can find on it in English. XD 

Title: Since there are no sources out there that list an English title, I present for consideration: “Green Silk Handkerchief” (jiao xiao = handkerchief | xiao = silk | bi = blue or bluish green color) or “Mermaid’s Jade” (jiao = shark | xiao = silk | bi = jade) [He’s a merman tho... "Merfolk's Jade"??] **

Plot: I watched it and am intrigued as well as a little confused. It could probably have done with a little more fleshing out, but there was enough info to get through. A sad little (forbidden) love story. From what I can understand (not that much): There is a mer-folk kingdom, but they fell under turmoil and the people became enslaved (by humans) bc they cry pearls and they can weave this ~magical silk~. In the other (human) kingdom, there’s this general- Yuanshan. He’s married (?) to a princess- the sister of the king- he’s friends with the king, even. But the king is actually trying to kill him. Yuanshan is sent out to.. capture this one evil magic user (I am unclear about this; might be an evil fishman, exploiting his own people). He ends up finding Yixia (merman prince) and promptly… you got it. Falls in love. Yuanshan is injured in his fight with the evil guy, but Yixia heals him. It’s all good. But Yuanshan ends up keeping Yixia (he’s not supposed to). Things get complicated from there.

Probably the most important part of the dialogue: “The best silk is green in color. Because the blood of us merfolk is green. The silk contains our blood. Next is red- it’s called “jiao xiao chun” (mermaid spring). White is the lowest- it’s called “jiao xiao xue” (mermaid snow). I’m willing to weave a “jiao xiao bi” (mermaid jade) for you. When merfolk weave the silk, we use our bodies. Mermaid Snow is made with the hands. Mermaid Spring uses the upper half of the body. Mermaid Jade is…” 👀 👀 

(P.S. - I put that image up there instead of the acutal promo bc.. reasons XD)

** P.S.2 - I’ve been thinking about the title of this movie entirely too much, and I think that “Jade Silk” might be a good name. Then the other silks can be called “Spring Silk” and “Snow Silk”. Yeah.
