Is the "DOCTORED/FABRICATED CHATLOG" claim a tin foil hat conspiracy for the Zoe Quinn supporters?

This has been continuing to nag me all week, I posted something similar to this somewhere deep in the Escapist thread discussing the Quinnspiracy/Quinngate/Zoegate/Gaming Press Nepotism Scandal/whatever-the-hell-we're-calling-it-now controversy. Certain people (specifically the Escapist's Greg Tito) that are defending Miss Zoe have asserted that Eron Gjoni's evidence (the chat-logs he provided to back up his claims at thezoepost) are either A) doctored or B) completely fabricated by Gjoni in order to harass her and ruin Zoe's reputation, and have tried to cast doubt on Eron's credibility as a source of information, all while continuing to tell everyone to, quote, "Please stop accepting the facts you want to believe are true because they fit the pre-conceived notions you have about the world." Basically, it sounds like he's trying to paint everyone that's outraged over the whole Quinnspiracy as the gamer equivalent of tinfoil hats and 9/11 truthers. Now, is Eron probably a biased source? Of course! Apparently Zoe played the poor guy like a fiddle the entire time they were together ('together' spanning the entire time from when they first started the relationship to when Eron permanently ended it). Who wouldn't be somewhat biased when writing a massive expose like this? However, he's no less biased than Ms. Quinn or Mr. Grayson in all this. However, the problem with the "doctored/fabricated" claim are two things: it's way, way too complicated and accurate for him to have just made it up (plus he provided video evidence of the facebook chatlogs on youtube, so there's that as well), and the fact that Zoe hasn't tried to sue him for slandering her good name or brought out any evidence to contradict Eron's proof. In fact, why don't we all step back for from the whole Quinnspiracy for a moment and look at this from a logical perspective. Tell me, which sounds like the more realistic scenario here? A) The abused, manipulated ex-boyfriend happen to keep extensive chatlogs of his conversations with his now ex-girlfriend and decided to write a gigantic, multi-post confession on a blog airing all of the dirty laundry during the time they were together (the constant lies, the cheating, etc.). OR B)The vindictive ex-boyfriend wanted to make his girlfriend pay, so he spent long nights meticulously fabricating(which would take a lot of skill to pull off)/doctoring over ten pages of chat-logs that are so high quality fakes that they can pass inspection as the real thing (an impressive feat), and then made up a giant sob-story about how he was manipulated and betrayed by his ex that matches up perfectly with the fabricated/doctored evidence, and then made a blog about it specifically to humiliate and shame her over their failed relationship and destroy her career as a bonus. One of these assumed scenarios sounds realistic, the other sounds something from a big tinfoil-hat grade conspiracy. Occam's razor leads me to believe the scenario A is more realistic, B the conspiracy. And scenario B is the one which several of Zoe Quinn's supporters believe. Of course, that's just my opinion on the matter. Just some food for thought. EDIT: Greg Tito has actually admitted that he needs to go back and revise the 2013 article that helped set off the entire attack on wizardchan by the gaming community, so he's not total demonstrating willful blindness while defending Zoe right now.

I had nice long post about this which I somehow deleted on accident. I'm still getting used to tumblr, sue me. Anyway, where do I start? This TheDailyBeast article might not be completely about the whole Quinnspiracy scandal, but the part of it that is so terribly intellectually dishonest that I can't talk about it without sounding biased. I'll just pick the most offending quotes here:

"The chronic problem of misogyny had another flare-up this week with a disturbing harassment campaign organized against indie game developer Zoe Quinn, the mind behind Depression Quest. It’s a story that demonstrates, yet again, how serious the problem of misogyny in the gaming world is and how any woman in it can find herself targeted by the howling mobs of woman-haters on the Internet, often on the thinnest of pretenses."

Last I checked, the 99% of the outrage over this doesn't give a damn about Ms. Quinn, they care about the rampant cronyism, nepotism, and blatant agenda pushing in the industry. "While, as is usual with these kind of real-time Internet harassment situations, there’s a lot of dispute about who said what and when, everyone agrees that this particular story starts with a vindictive ex-boyfriend. Quinn’s ex started a blog specifically to humiliate and shame her over their failed relationship, making lengthy accusations of cheating." I'm sorry, but as impartial as I've tried to be over this whole week when this thing blew up, the "accusations" of cheating are actually pretty damn rock hard evidence. I've seen some very big names in the gaming press go around going around claiming that Eron Gronj completely fabricated or doctored the chatlogs (Greg Tito, the Escapist's Editor-in-Chief is one of the biggest offenders) he provided as evidence to cover himself from legal repercussions in his obscenely gigantic blog post at thezoepost over on wordpress. Speaking of which Amanda Marcoette would it be too much to ask for a link to the blog in question. Y'know, for balanced, quality journalism? I could keep going on, but since she's using that intellectually dishonest slag of an article about the whole situation from Motherboard's VICE as her primary source of information, there's no point. I'll sum it up real nice and quick for everyone. She basically demonizes Eron Gronj the rest of the article, painting him as some hate-filled ex out to ruin Ms. Quinn's reputation. Sorry, but Ms. Quinn has done that to herself VERY WELL over the couple days, regardless of what side people of the argument people are sitting on, provided they actually take a look at all the evidence and don't take Zoe Quinn's word as gospel truth.

Developments, developments..

This Zoe Quinn thing is just getting bigger and bigger. I make a blog post and in a blink of an eye that post is antiqued as new developments emerge.

I still stand by my opinion that its not about feminism bashing, cheating, and putting women down.

It is ENTIRELY about hypocrisy and how it effects the perception of the gaming industry as a whole, at least on our western shores. It is also about putting the little guy down to raise your own self up.

There is going to be alot of reading tomorrow for me to do whatever the case!

Also, let me say: This is probably the closest I've ever been to seeing actual internet drama unfold before my eyes, at a speed I can hardly keep up with. The difference between your run of the mill CWC raid and this is that for the first time the evidence collecting and opinion blogging is actually addressing a real issue.

Still doesn't change the fact that in the real world this is simply "business as usual".

Maybe thats the reason the reaction is so explosive? Theres a thought. Perhaps for some of the people involved in this and keeping tabs on it, this is their first solid evidence of the realism of the working world. The glossy paint is chipping on that nice shiny toy, and the things underneath that paint - that actual solid mass of the thing - is a rusted over, decaying monster.

Guys it's time to focus on the important shit. The gaming media is who we should hold accountable. Zoe Quinn is legitimately fucking terrible, but she is only one part of this. If we let the focus shift to the things the media is claiming this is about, misogyny, slut shaming, and infidelity, then we lose. 

We have to focus on what's important. Alerting people to what's happening, and holding the gaming media accountable for it's lack of ethics.
