Today I revisited a period from the 85s-90s when I practically only listened to music... avant-garde rock, avant-prog, Zolo, experimental avant-garde folk, free jazz, musique concrète, tape music.

The Velvet Underground, The Mothers of Invention, Henry Cow. Henry Cow, This Heat, The Work .. (RIO) Henry Cow, Univers Zero, Samla Mammas Manna.

Zolo is a term used in criticism to describe a sub-style within avant-pop/art-punk with absurd humor, angular rhythms, and hyperactive melodies — Cardiacs, The Residents, Devo.

This is an inference based on sources on avant-prog and experimental rock, which mention humor, theatricality, and angular structures as characteristics of certain experimental branches.
