headcanon that there's not a lot of known, confirmed history about early killjoys. i mean, who would know that any of that is important enough to record. who would know that they wouldn't win the wars they fight, that they wouldn't make it through this night or the next to tell the story. so by the time the 80's roll around, no one knows anything about what came before, and so they start to change it. myths are made up and passed through generations, random things like odd shaped cactuses and mutated land due to a toxic climate are given mystical and, otherwise, clearly fictional explanations. almost everything is a fairytale but that's what makes it all the better. it makes it livable. gives sand pups something to marvel at and killjoys something to hold onto that even slightly resembles a childhood, though those are rare and infrequent. however much these stories are morphed through the years, they're carried on. they aren't history, but they're a proof of survival, and that's enough.

PSA on Motor Babies

Hey zone rats I’ve heard a few blips on the waves that some people are thinking their friends are being replaced by droids. Just wanted to let y’all know about some weird tics that the Motor Babies have so you can stop shooting them on sight.

Firstly: Some motor babies have cybernetic limbs due to the fact their lifestyle is fucking crazy. Working on half rusted junk heaps they’re prone to gangrene as well as tetanus. Due to lack of doctors willing to head into their territory they usually just chop of the damaged limb and replace it with tech.

This does not mean they’re a droid sent to spy on you.

Secondly: If you see your motor baby friends chugging motor oil or any other combustible material before a fight it just means they’re fucking up their body so BLI can’t bring them back as a Drac. This whole process, or ritual for those religious folk, is a way to keep from being used against the ones they care about if the worst happens.

If your motor baby survives the fight they really need to get their stomachs pumped and some serious TLC. Don’t hide their oil or other substances because it will hinder their ability to function in a scrap. Without that fail safe of total destruction they won’t be at their best and a lot of people will get killed.

Thirdly: Is your motor baby having an unhealthy relationship with their ride? That’s normal. Being alone in the desert tends to warp a person’s mind especially when they’re out in the sun all day. Just avert your eyes and send them a fruit basket if they invite you to some kind of vehicular wedding. It’s just their way so don’t question it.

In addition: Most motor babies are paranoid by nature and don’t leap into groups of other ‘joys unless drunk. It’s easy to tell if they’re not themselves by just watching how they act in public. If they’re twitchy and compulsively tinkering with some kind of electronic or fidgeting with something in reach they’re probably still human. It’s when they’re the life of the party and trying to win over everyone in the room, without alcohol or sex involved, that they probably should be watched a little closer.

Hopefully that helps clear some shit up so we can all stop taking pot shots at one of our more different groups out there. Remember kiddos, we’re all in this together. Stand your ground and keep your mask on.
