Hearthstone Zoo'Thun Warlock - An Abomination of Zoo and C'Thun
Heroic Tavern Brawl - meh?
Been a while since I blogged so I thought I’d share some thoughts about the Heroic Tavern Brawl Blizzard released last night.
I was intrigued to give it a try when I first heard about it. I fancy myself an above average Hearthstone player and I love pimping out my decks so the chance of getting some sweet, sweet golden legendary cards was definitely appealing. The cost of entry isn’t cheap unless you play full time but I had about 1400 gold on my account last night, though, so I gave it a shot.
I decided I wanted to play a deck with some potential for outplaying my opponent but with the ability to sometimes just win off a god draw. Zoo it is, then. The list was as standard as you can imagine of a discard zoo build. No singletons, lots of one-drops and buff minions.
I went 7-3 overall, losing to dragon priest, reno lock and tempo mage. Against priest I just ran out of threats to keep up with their healing and removal. The reno lock I threw my tapping one too many times when I would have won on the next turn (I died to the first tick of fatigue - oops!). The tempo mage game was fairly tilting as my opponent made numerous mistakes but my draw left me unable to punish him. Oh well, it happens in card games.
I received eight packs, 280 gold and 270 dust for my seven wins. Definitely worth it if you consider that I only paid gold for the entry fee but I certainly won’t be paying actual money to try it again. The packs, admittedly random, started to feel rigged by the 8th one. Yes, I know it’s random, but I got nothing of note except for a single epic and one unplayable golden rare. Feels bad man, as they say.
So, the prizes for doing okay are just okay. That’s fine. I have absolutely no urge to try it again, however, unless I had another thousand dust lying around. The experience felt like normal laddering but with more pressure to win whilst not actually climbing the ladder. I’m sure some people like the competitive aspect but it just felt bad when I lost and basically the same as winning a ladder game when I won. Maybe this could be fixed by something as simple as seeing the prizes racking up alongside your score, I don’t know. What I’d like to see if heroic brawl returns is for the wins to still count towards my ladder grind. Maybe Blizzard wants to keep the two completely separate - fair enough, but the way it’s set up at the moment is not for me and, according to the poll on Hearthpwn, it’s not for a lot of people.

I have a theory: if zoo doesn’t can’t tap itself to death, it can’t lose!
Doc Awesome demonstrates the fearsome Zoo Warlock deck in Hearthstone.
Here are my decklists for the tournament (except for C’Thun Druid because I don’t want you seeing how awful it is at the moment). Constructive criticism iwould be generously accepted
Thank you guys for the love and support! My deck and guide is on the front page of Hearthpwn again!

Below is a video of some of the games to give you a feel for how to pilot the deck and why certain choices are made in the decklist.
