So this may have absolutely no correlation to look into because it's just based on a few anecdotes I've noticed, but do you know if there's any research into aphantasia and how strong of plot threads dreams have? I feel like how long/detailed of narrative arcs people dream in is sort of related to how strongly they visualize while awake. (But of course a lot of that is also guessing based on how people tend to describe their dreams.) I'm happy for more anecdotes too, though, so if you feel like there's any (or no) relation between the two for you I'd love to hear any thoughts about that.

Hm, I certainly haven't seen any research on it, but then aphantasia is so new in terms of scientific definition (I believe the origin date for the term is 2015, certainly not before 2010) that there just hasn't been much research done at all yet -- most of it seems to be in the form of identifying the condition and its possible links to other conditions. The relationship of a mental/neurological condition to dreams is pretty esoteric as research projects go.

Unfortunately I won't be any help personally either -- I frequently have dreams that have very strong narratives. I also dream in color which is apparently somewhat unusual, or at any rate when I do recall visuals from dreams I recall them being in color. The only impact my neurodivergence (ADHD or aphantasia, take your pick) seems to have on my dreams is that I never see faces. I intuitively know who people are, much of the time, but either I just am not looking at their face or it's obscured for some reason -- in shadow, or they're wearing a hat, stuff like that.

Trick or Treat!

Happy Halloween! Have 1.6k of Frozen fic, which is 1.1K longer than I had intended it to be sdl;gjslfgk (I haven't seen Frozen 2 btw, so this is just based off the first movie)

Elsa knows Anna’s stories and dreams of true love aren’t for her. There is no one out there who could know her story, know her truly, know what she is and still love her.

It’s nice to watch her sister dream, though.

She holds it together through the coronation. Tight fisted, white knuckled, she powers through and at the party she gets to watch Anna flit from person to person, laughing and dancing and everything, all the terror, the the danger, the horrible, clanging vulnerability of today might have been worth it just for that.

A prince named Hans approaches now Queen Elsa.

He’s not the first at this party and she’s sure he won’t be the last, but he’s the only one who doesn’t ask her probing questions about the gate and why she kept it closed and what her marriage plans are.

He’s also endearing, in a way that reminds her of Anna.

She keeps the gates open.

She made it through the coronation just fine. No accidents, no mishaps, she kept herself in check and it was all worth it for how happy she made her sister for just that one day. So she keeps them open and the way Anna’s face lights up as she dances around the room with excitement makes it all worth it.

The princes keep coming, Hans among them. He remains the only one who’s company she does not recoil from. She does not feel the way the stories say she would feel, but still. She likes him and he’s handsome, so she figures it must be love.

Anna continues to swirl about going from parties to galas and when Elsa sees how happy she is, she feels she could burst with pride.

She slips and everyone knows. ~ The kingdom not blanketed in eternal snow, as everyone had feared would happen. It was an unseasonable flurry that had melted with the morning. Elsa hadn’t returned.

Anna tells Hans to stay and look after the kingdom. “They need someone in charge and I’m no good for that. Besides, everyone knows you two were courting. It will be fine. I’ll go into the mountains and bring her back and then you can propose and the two of you can get married and everything will be fine again!”

Hans agrees, reluctantly. Anna has a point, he does know how to run a kingdom better than she does. He just thought he was going to be a king when he did it. ~ The ice hauler is brash and rude and smells, but he is also true to his word in helping Anna scale the mountain even though she has no idea what she is doing. He complains about the weather and the remoteness of their location and how annoying he finds the talking snowman who ends up following them around.

He brushes off Anna’s promises to reward him handsomely for his, saying she can reward him by getting off his mountain as soon as possible. If she had not grown up with as sister as recalcitrant as Elsa, she might have taken offense at his words. Instead, she can hear his worry for her through his complaints about her foolhardy nature.

She takes them in good stride.

When they reach Elsa’s new castle, a towering, spiraling, crystalline, beautiful thing, Else tries to hide. Anna knows her, though, and finds her, and delights in all she has made.

Kristoph stays near the doorway and grumbles about how ice in the summer is going to put him out of a job.

Despite her best efforts and all she does, Anna cannot convince Elsa to come back home. Anna refuses to give up. She thanks Kristoph for all he has done for her and tell him he is free to go. She writes him a letter for his reward and seals is for him to bring to the castle.

He scoffs and says a princess and a queen have no way to survive out here without help and grumbles and groans good naturedly and brings them food to eat while Anna tries to convince Elsa to come back. ~ Rumors spread through the kingdom that the evil Queen has stolen away the innocent Princess and Hans does nothing to stop them. When a hunter suggests a trip into the mountains to confront her, Hans goes with them. ~ Kristoph watches as the prince who is supposed to love the Queen rushes her castle with an angry mod to try and take back a princess who clearly wants to be there. Elsa does her best to try and protect herself and her sister, but she is unpracticed with her magic and they both end up in the crossfire despite her best intentions. He drags Anna out of the fight, hoping if they see her leave, they’ll stop trying to get at Elsa.

It works, sort of, and while Prince Hans tries to send him on his way, he refuses to leave until Anna tells him to do so. She seems shaky and pale, but with armed guards willing to enforce her decrees, Kristoph has no choice but to listen to her.

He heads back home, to see if the trolls have any idea what to do about all this magic running rampant.

The trolls are distracted by, of all things, his heart. Declaring him to be in love and demanding he bring her home to meet the family. When he finally manages to convince them that will not be happening, for a number of reasons, they stop asking lightly.

His Grandfather sits him down and tells him gravely that Anna is dying. That though the Snow Queen had not meant to harm her sister, during the fight Anna was struck through the heart with her magic and now only an act of True Love can save Anna.

Something in Kristoph’s chest twists and contracts at that thought. He still doesn’t head to Anna. Instead, he turns his feet back up the mountain. Whatever he feels for Anna, he knows who she loves. And he is sure that this will make the Queen come back down off the mountain.

He hikes back up to the snowy peak allowing that infuriating talking snowman that Anna was so fond of to guide him back to its maker. He finds her deep in the snow, where almost no snow could reach.

“Get back!” She snarles at him, ice at the ready.

“Anna’s dying.” He sees her eyes widen and her breath quicken, though the rest of her stays stock still. “Anna’s dying and only an act of True Love can save her and I don’t know if that’s you, I don’t know if you can be said to truly love her, but you are the person Anna can be said to truly love. You’re her last and only hope.”

There is a small, selfish part of him that wishes he was enough to save Anna, but he knows he is not. He can bear that pain, if it means she can be saved.

She agrees to come with him.

He has to sneak her into the kingdom and when he gets there, he is disgusted and repulsed to find that Prince Hans is offering Anna’s hand in marriage to anyone who can break the curse on her heart.

Kristoph wonders darkly if Hans had tried to break it himself.

It’s useful for them, however, because it makes it easier to get through the gates of the castle. Once inside, they join the line of those who are going to try and break the curse.

Kristoph feels the Queen tense up at his side, angry and bitter at his side at how small and tired Anna looks on the throne they have sat her on for this. He wonders how often they have paraded her out like this.

He places a hand on Elsa’s shoulder, to try and calm both of them down.

When it is finally their turn to try, a servant jostles Elsa, knocking down the hood of her robe and revealing her identity before she can make it up to Anna. Guards drag her into the center of the room and Prince Hans reaches for his sword, drawing it and declaring that he will be the one to save Princess Anna by killing the Queen who cursed her.

Kristoph tries to surge past the guards, tries to reach for Elsa before the sword can reach her.

“No!” Anna screams, diving in front of her sister to protect her from the blade.

It shatters across the dome of ice Queen Elsa summons to protect her.

Before anyone else can react, Anna drags herself upwards, more animated than she was even seconds ago. She wrests a sword from one of the guards and waves it in their direction, threatening anyone who would dare to hurt her sister.

Elsa stays lying on the floor, staring up at Anna.

Kristoph manages to muscle his way through to stand before Anna. He approaches carefully. “Put the sword down, please, Anna.”

“No! She didn’t do anything wrong! All she did was make some snow! No one needed to hurt her! No one is going to! I won’t allow it!”

“Anna, no one is going to hurt her.” Kristoph approaches her cautiously. “Please,” he says softly. “Put the sword down.”

Her eyes cut back and forth between him and guards, breathing heavy. Finally, she puts down the sword.

She turns around to drag Elsa up and back, further away from the crowd.

Kristoph turns back to the guards. “Shouldn’t you be arresting him? He tried to kill your Queen.”

The guard who’s sword Anna stole walks forward cautiously, before picking it back up. He is an older guard, likely having served the palace since the time of the previous King and Queen. He point it at Hans, who has not moved from where he was thrown by Elsa’s magic. “Prince Hans of the Southern Isles, I place you under arrest for attempted murder of the Queen.”

sadlj;faslgkj FUNNY STORY so the reality is I had some REALLY BAD acid reflux while watching a scene where a Goa'uld hopped down a person's throat and was like "that would be a funny and stupid way for someone to avoid being snaked if they gagged and threw up and the stomach acid damaged the Goa'uld's Tender Flesh"

I had already been noodling the idea of doing a stargate fic at the time, lots of little things that I understand probably have production logistics reasons for happening but that still bothered me, questions characters didn't ask, ooc stuff where the reason is "the writers needed someone to do this for the plot to progress" etc

after thinking about how someone from Earth NOT in the SGC would even get into space to get snaked, I got attached to the idea of an oc who just stumbled into the SGC super hard and I'm FROM the PNW so I had to double down on them filming here by having Spoons be from here and added a bunch of Extremely PNW stuff going on with her character, little things like her calling Washington DC "DC" while everyone else calls it "Washington"*, talking about the umbrella thing in the Christmas episode, the way she says the planet she got dragged to in the very first chapter felt more like home than Utah did, her learning the language of the Snohomish tribe, all of it is just one big expansion of the joke YOU CAN'T FOOL ME STARGATE, THAT'S NOT A DESERT, THAT'S THE SANDS ON THE BEACHES OF THE SAN JUAN'S I'D KNOW THAT SAND ANYWHERE I GREW UP ON IT dfsgl;jdfgf (I know they filmed in BC, not Wa, BUT they're very close and very similar environment wise and I know the Washington side of things! so she's from there)

I started fleshing out some of her backstory and wrote a little thing about her mom and how complicated their relationship is bc she was a Bad Mom, but sometimes she was a Really Good Mom. That was in the notes app of my phone and I thought "well, I'll just move it to my computer" and then the outline was OPEN and I was like "WELL, I can just make the outline, just work on it a little" 14 hours later my roommate was commenting that I was up early and I was staring down the continuum section of the wiki remembering how WEIRD the movies are

She's shifted around a bit, she was supposed to be an opera singer who had to end her burgeoning career due to the acid reflux who then pivoted to linguistics because she learned languages super well and wanted to know more about them, but I remembered I don't know shit about opera, so it shifted to Broadway/Musicals, which I feel comfortable being Confidently Wrong about sfgjld;kjfg I don't know if I'll ever really get into it, but I did the timeline math and realize she would have been doing that degree and starting her musical theater career in the middle of the AIDS crisis and was like. oh she ABSOLUTELY saw a staggering amount of death with that. Which is why she ended up pivoting to linguistics in the fic!

I think there's a hint of it in the cave sequence when Spoons gets sick and wakes up to a terrified and relieved Sha're, because Sha're would also 100% have Disease Trauma being from Abydos. I also gave her the "almost died of an infection" back story (again, for Mom Trauma Reasons), so it would be totally reasonable for people to assume that's what that was about and it really can be read either way. I kinda like it being a thing people would have to Do The Math On for her, since she doesn't really talk about it

She was originally not going to be a host at all, but someone Amaunet thought was extremely beautiful and preferred to Sha're, having Amaunet die while trying to take over Spoons and freeing both of them then, but ultimately I didn't really like that. there's also hints of a dropped plotline where Amaunet was gambling with maturing primta to try and find one who was an ashrak based on complicated worldbuilding in my head, but the more I looked at the actual SG1 timeline, the more it fell apart. I'm really happy with what I landed on though! I liked her not really knowing why she got picked and no one really knowing why Amaunet was trying to jump into Spoons! The idea in my head is she was trying to get into Spoons to see what the ashrak had done to see if she could undo it before they had to abandon ship

But yeah! Spoons, like most of my ocs, started as a "you know what would be funny?" and then grew from there

*Fun fact: they almost called the state "Columbia" to try and avoid confusion with the capital and then didn't, I wish we lived in that timeline, if people tell you that it got rejected for being too confusing with "District of Columbia" they are LYING, the dude in favor of Washington was arguing that Columbia would ALSO be confusing so they should stick with Washington even though people were already pointing out Washington was going to confuse people, why don't we call in Columbia instead (I mean we could have called it any of the names it already had from the people who were already living here, but that's a different discussion #landback)

I don't know your methodology so I don't know how hard it is to compile the data... but would it be possible to compile the top f/f and m/m ships for the Bridgerton show? I have trouble telling just by looking through because a) there are a lot of ships that are from the crossover media, not from Bridgerton, and b) a lot of them have MANY ships on one fic. However if this would be really hard I would love to see just the top ships for Eloise Bridgerton!
