Someday theoretically I'll post full breakdowns and art and such for the ocs etc over at @dragonstamed.
Going insane about star trek over at @3rdgenerationstartrekautism
If the blog looks very Spoons Heavy at the moment, that's because it is, they're currently eating my brain sdaljg;lfsdjg. Don't worry, my other children will eat my brain soon sgjsdkfg
CURRENTLY UPDATING FIC(S)
The Spoons Saga:
A massive rewrite of Stargate SG1 from season 3, all the way to the end or whenever I run out of steam, whichever comes first. The whole thing is outlined through season 10, so hopefully I don't crash and burn.
A New Normal: part three of the Spoons Saga, relationships come together and the longer-term impacts of the alternate universe come start coming into play
The Long Way Home (Author's commentary): Buying myself time to write more of part four and fix the beginning of part three my yapping about my own fic for a few weeks sadgjs;fgj
Something Strange and Almost Kind:
After they return from Abydos, Jack brings a grieving Spoons to dinner at the behest of Sara. Now retired and no longer suicidal, Jack decides he's going to step up for Sara and hope beyond hope that it's not too little, too late.
Spoons, devastated by Daniel choosing to stay on Abydos for reasons she cannot articulate, is surprised by how much kindness the O'Neills show her.
Sara, for her part, is just relieved that, despite all evidence that Jack was not supposed to come home on that last mission, he's back in arms reach and seems determined to stay.
Fucked-up, insecure, neurotic, and emotional, the three of them work their way back towards the land of the living together just in-time for Anubis to dial Earth on that fateful day.
Current For Fun project, sporadic up-dates
COMING SOON
Hitting Their Stride:
Part 4 of the Spoons Saga. Covers up to the end of season four, partially written, will begin posting after A New Normal finishes
The Spoons Saga: Author's Commentary Edition (part 2):
Same as the Spoons Saga, literally the exact same, but I'll have yammering and annotations included. Mostly exists to be a filler for when my buffer for the written fics gets thin sldjfgs;djflg and because I can't shut up.
freedom made ones spirit soar:
the steampunk au feat. my friend's oc and me going insane about gender politics
Spoonsgate Atlantis:
Explores how Stargate Atlantis would change if Spoons was there. Born of a desire to bounce Spoons and Rodney off each other, this is PROBABLY next on the list for fic updates once I finish the Spoons Saga
Spoons On Abydos (Title Pending):
What if Spoons went on the Original Abydos mission and stayed behind with Daniel?
Spoons The Tok'ra (Title Pending):
What if Spoons went on the Original Abydos mission and went home with the crew? An expansion of the Smoke and Firelight drabble (though who knows if the events will stay having happened that way once I get to writing this sdglja;ljfdgk)
Party Genders Have Been Auto Balanced (Title Pending):
What if Ishta was the shol'va instead of Teal'c? Can't decide if I want this to be 50/50 man/woman split and leave Daniel on the team or if I want to swap him out completely for Spoons instead. There's merit to both and tbh I might just write both, but for now only one goes on the board
Fuck you, I'm gonna fund the Jaffa rebellion (Title Pending):
This one is SUPER cooking but there's something in here with an oc goa'uld getting placed into Spoons who then rebels SUPER HARD because she hates how she gets treated and Spoons is Along For The Ride. I had an idea for this starting mid-movie with Ra sending Spoons off with some Jaffa as a potential host as like a political gift? I'm cooking and it's gonna be good I promise
Prison Break:
Based on a throwaway line in settling in chapter four where I mentioned that Spoons and the askrak would have been thrown into Netu if anyone had figured out the ashrak was going to rebel. Gonna start with Spoons meeting Jacob and Selmak on Netu and then breaking out and going from there
For Bad: Is there anyone who had an undeniable negative impact on your OC’s life? How did your OC deal with that change? Have they been able to move on?
Who hurt Spoons?
by far the person who has had the absolute worst impact on Spoons life is their mom. everything about their relationship with their mom is so fraught and so unresolved.
nancy faulkner could not stand even a little bit how weird and odd her child was and how hard it was to get spoons to fall in line and she especially could not stand how well Spoons connected to robert, a man who should, by rights, hate spoons as evidence of infidelity. she took spoons in the divorce because she didn't want robert to have her and wanted him to suffer and she figured spoons was young enough for it to be fine. and then her next husband hated kids, so nancy sent her to a boarding school because hey, she'll be taken care of there and just genuinely did not think about spoons again until she got a call from the principal that spoons got into a fight with an older boy.
and then nancy came to pick her up because she needed to and she saw her small, angry, bruised daughter and learns the spoons did not pick a fight with a boy, she fought off a boy and for once in her life, she was a really good mom. she pulled spoons out of school, got her self defense lessons and told spoons "no one touches you without your permission ever again," and for a few months there, was present in her daughters life. she showed up and got to know her and taught her the skills she had, like how to put on makeup and things weren't perfect, but it was better.
the third husband was not much of an improvement on the second and nancy backslid and ignored that spoons needed medical attention because she was on her honeymoon and didn't want to deal with it and then spoons almost died! and spoons just. never saw her again. she has no idea what happened to her mom.
she woke up in the hospital and her dad was there and she just. never got a resolution. never got to talk to her mother and find out why she did what she did for any of it. which spoons ended up just kinda burying for a very long time until she looked in the mirror while possessed by a Goa'uld and she saw her mother.
she dyed her hair blue pretty soon after
honestly, the worst part about it for spoons is that her mom was better for a little while. it all would have been easier to swallow if she had just stayed awful.

absolutely fucking ripped out my first fic for the au roulette and was somehow surprised when my fic was the first one added to the collection. my guy you posted it two and a half hours after you got your assignment sl;jg;dsgkj
Sam rocks back and forth on her feet where she is crouched down, eyes pressed to her knees, clipboard held in one hand. She keeps telling herself she just needs to finish inventory and then she can go home. Sam doesn't blame George for being forced into retirement, but she wishes almost anyone else had been hired to replace him. The first thing Bauer did was mess up everyone's schedule. She never worked 10 days in a row with George.
She flips her head to the side when she sees the door open and relaxes when she sees it's just Jack. "Are you supposed to be back here? Didn't you get fired?"
"Daniel called and said Bill called out. I figured I'd come pick you up." He sits down cross-legged next to her and rubs her back.
"You sure you want to sit on that floor?"
"I'll burn these pants when we get home."
Sam snuffles out a watery laugh. She holds onto the clipboard when Jack tries to take it from her. "I got it."
"You sure? We can just make up numbers that seem right, it's not like Bauer would notice."
"Yeah, I got it. I don't want to fuck over tomorrow. Doing it badly now would just make more work for me in the future. Get out of here before you get into trouble."
"Okay." Jack leans down and presses a quick peck to her cheek. "I'll be waiting in the car. I'm parked at the gas station."
Sam takes a shuddering breath in. "Okay. Can you ask T to take my bike home for me?"
Jack smiles at her. "Already did. Keys are in your jacket?"
Sam nods. Jack gives her a hug before he heads out. She counts to ten before standing up again, feet throbbing as she puts her full weight on them once again. She's been in here long enough to get properly cold, something she normally tries to avoid. She wipes the tears from her eyes and gets back to counting. When she's done, she leaves the completed sheet in Bauer's office. She asks Walter if he needs any help finishing close, but he waives her off and tells her to go home. She thanks him and clocks out.
She pulls off her apron and stuffs it into her bag before pulling on her jacket and making her way outside. It's cold and dark out and she can see the heavy breath she takes to fortify herself for the walk across the street. At least she doesn't need to get herself home.
The walk sign clicks on and she shoves herself off the pole of the traffic light to trudge over to Jack's waiting car. It's warm when she slides in, warmer than Jack normally keeps it. He hands her a cup off coffee and a slice of pizza. They're as bad as she knows they're going to be, but after the day she's had, they could be ambrosia from the gods.
I just realized you can't manually dial out of the gates in the pegasus galaxy
like, the gates being digital were meant to show that they were Newer and Shiner and it works! and I don't even think it's necessarily a bad that you can't dial out manually, the puddle jumpers all have DHDs in them and a decent amount of the gates are in space, maybe even the majority of them idk, so, like, what is happening that you CAN dial out manually for those, BUT it is a definite utility that the milky way gates have over the pegasus ones, at least while they're on the ground
Putting all my thoughts about the basics of how I want the stargate system to work in my fics here in one place. It's probably only ever going to be background information, but if I type it all out, I can link back here where (hopefully) I won't end up contradicting myself later. I probably will, but, you know, an attempt will have been made. ANYWAY
While it's perfectly possible to explain away the prop limitations for the Stargates with "all the symbols are the same (except the point of origin, which is/can be different) because the Ancients wanted them all to match Earth as being a point of reference", I think it's cool to think of them as having different symbols that are based on the constellations one can see from the planet where that the Gate was originally placed.
Gates can have overlapping symbols if the planets see the same star clusters, but at least the point of origin will be different, if not every symbol on the Gate itself.
The Giza Gate, the Abydos Gate, and the Antarctica Gate all have very closely overlapping symbols due to the close proximity of Earth, Abydos, and wherever the Goa'uld grabbed the Giza Gate from. Mostly to keep my silly little aus from breaking from main canon too hard. The Giza Gate was probably relocated by the Goa'uld from a dead world close to both Earth and Abydos to keep the symbols as accurate as possible.
The idea behind the Gates having different symbols comes from an idea that I had that if you know where a different planet is supposed to be in the night sky, you could cold-call it without having to already know the address based on the constellations and the symbols on the Gate. This is also helps with the stellar drift problem, assuming you are aware of stellar drift and can account for it when trying to dial the place.
Is this ever going to be more than mostly background details? Probably not, the fics are about what happens after people travel through the Gate, not how the Gates themselves work. But the idea is neat and I wanted to talk about it somewhere!
i have had an apostrophe, lightning has struck my brain, the symbols are different but the LAYOUT on the DHD etc also allows people to dial back a planet they just left, which also neatly ties into why they stop being like "we need to figure out how to dial home" after, like the third episode shdjfkf
like doyalisttically it would have gotten old VERY QUICKLY for that to always have been a plot point, but this also gives me a neat little watsonian explanation as well :)
