i was starting to believe that the "bentou" part of "furuya gives kazami a bentou with his own home-cooked excess food" was an anime-only since in the manga, the chapter ends at "i guess I'll give it to kazami"
but reading threads on twt i went back to check and the bentou, on its own, is drawn on the chapter break page. a bentou neatly wrapped in a furoshiki. so...yeah...it's real. furuya giving kazami food in neatly wrapped furoshiki is not even ZTT anime-only, it's ZTT manga canon too.
they're not dating
what i really like about ch 58 of ZTT, as the last ZTT chapter with Kazami, is that it's really a chapter that sets up idea that "when kazami is here, furuya can do the things he cannot do alone." and "kazami will save furuya when alone, furuya would die"
and as a bonus, it's "kazami will use the power of others to help furuya live, where furuya might try to act alone (and die alone)" aka "there are some things kazami can do that furuya cannot"
and i think it's such a ;~; heart-trending way to finish kazami's story within ZTT
imagining the very FIRST time that kazami received a packed lunch from furuya. he must have thought that this was a code or something... "he said to eat properly, but is this a way of passing me information...? maybe..? but we didn't have any agreement to meet today...?" opens the furoshiki, finds a super normal bentou inside (it looks delicious) "maybe the usb key is in there", slowly eats the meal piece by piece (it's so delicious), bite by bite and coming to the end of it, and there is no usb key, no nothing, and he freaks out for a moment because "did i eat it?" but there was really nothing "was i just...fed?" he was just fed
maybe this is one more round of "user potahun needs to take a chill pill", but:
this is kazami yuuya's character intro from the movie's official twt account (it is also published on the movie website).
"Furuya (Amuro)'s loyal subordinate (...) Even within the Public Security Police Force, few detectives have access to the 'Zero' to which Furuya belongs. Kazami, as one of those few detectives, is providing support to Furuya. Sometimes, he also gets instructed to do things unrelated to public security work..."
unrelated to public security work.....please bear with me.
now, in the main manga, there are only two moments where kazami is being called to play along with furuya's unreasonable demands:
Haibara's charm case, where he's asked to blow on a train window, which helps the kids find the charm (and kickstarts a whole subplot of conan, but let's forget that for a minute)
Kid's heist, where he's asked to come to work on his day off, under the pretense that he's protecting the Queen's Bang for Queen Selizabeth's sake, but in reality, it's just that Furuya has a petty grudge against Kid and can't deal with it alone, apparently.
In the first case, Furuya can argue that solving the case means impressing the kids and being in Conan's good books as Amuro. All of this is ultimately good for his undercover mission! So it IS public security work
In the second case too, since it's for Queen Selizabeth's sake, even if Kazami's presence wasn't really needed at the venue, on the face of it, it IS public security work!
That means, you can argue that this movie intro is referring to something else, different from what happens in the manga!! But in M20, M22, M25 he only ever gets ordered to do public security work! So what else really doesn't count as public security work?
Taking care of Haro on the regular...... (and arguably, playing rugby)
Conclusion: M28 and ZTT happen in the same timeline. Case closed
(user potahun will take a chill pill)
