Scarlet Desire Chapter 11: What Makes a Man
Pairing: Furuya Rei/Akai Shūichi Rating: M
When Rei wakes up, he’s still at Vermouth’s apartment. He recognizes it right away, even though it’s nighttime now. The glass facade lets in enough light pollution to make out at least outlines and some pale colors. Rei is lying on the purple leather sofa, wrapped in a soft blanket. As soon as he sits up, he realizes that something’s wrong. Very wrong. He flings the blanket aside and hops off the sofa. The apartment is definitely the same, but everything looks...bigger. Suddenly, a creature as white and gigantic as a polar bear is approaching him, panting excitedly. Startled, Rei jumps back onto the sofa to save himself, which is surprisingly difficult considering that it’s suddenly much larger and higher than before. It doesn’t take him long to understand that the polar bear is Pearl. She looks almost as tall as a horse, except that her size hasn’t changed at all in proportion to the furniture. It’s Rei whose size has changed. When he looks down at himself, he notices that he’s wearing blue pajamas spotted with little white dogs that look like Haro. Everything comes back to him in a nearly paralyzing flash. Vermouth deceived and abducted him. She brought him here and claimed to be his mother. The last thing he remembers is excruciating pain. He thought he was dying. But Rei’s not dead. He’s shrunk.
