There's this Australian dessert baking contest show called Zumbo's Just Desserts. I was watching this episode where a contestant made a lemon meringue pie. The audience clapped, which confused me, because I always thought that Australians boo meringues?

does anyone remember that one show called Zumbo’s Just Desserts? it was Australian and was (is?) on Netflix. because I haven’t moved on from the fact that the first time I watched it a girl named Ali won the show, but the second time it was someone else??? her name was Kate??? I even watched it with someone the first time and they remember the other winner. can someone please help because I can’t find any explanation online

I'm convinced that Zumbo from Zumbos Just Deserts is Willy Wonkas estranged brother, who's just like a little more psychotic. I mean he already looks like a James Bond villain or Mr. Clean's evil twin.

His warehouse thing is very Wonka-esque. Lots of colors and large candy, a little childlike. He has that vibe. Kinda like the Johnny Dep Willy Wonka with melting dolls in the beginning and then there's the whole concept of the show.

He finds people who are bakers on their own time and they join with the chance of winning a large sum of money. Seems quite a bit like Wonka getting children to come to his factory to choose one to take over his company. The bakers then compete. They are given a ridiculously short amount of time to either recreate or create a desert. What's interesting is when things don't go according to plan or fail. That's what gets aired. Rather cruel but that's how these shows go. It also reminds me of how all the children come to a rather unsavory end in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They don't die but they are out of the running just like the bakers who Zumbo kicks out.

Personally I think his baking show is his chocolate factory. But then again I only saw part of an episode over someone's shoulder at a restaurant but I know I'm right.
