Gracious Hekate, roamer of the streets, protector of laypeople, I pray to you. Cast your gaze upon those in need And guard them, With all of your wonderous might. Goddess of witchcraft, I implore you, If ever I've spoken good of your name, To aid and watch over those Who cannot do so themselves. Bless them with the touch of your hand And let your light be a guide to them. You, Hekate, who sees the stars in the shadows, See us now.
There’s a million and one reasons why Shinigami Eyes is a terrible extension that enables intercommunity bigotry but the best short summary I can give is “intersex and trans people who aren’t transfem talking about and naming their experiences get marked red, you can call transmascs slurs and say they should all be violently killed and be marked green, and the guidelines explicitly state that transmedicalism is ‘out of scope’ for the extension.”
If you treat someone as irredeemably bad or evil, then that's what they'll be. It's only when you start treating them like a person instead of the abstract personification of everything you hate that you'll make much progress getting along with each other.
I don't care if your headmate's done the worst shit I can imagine, traumatized you repeatedly, and laughed in your face about it. They've still got a reason for doing it. And if that reason is "they find it fun," then what's going on in their life that makes hurting other people (and being hated by them) their best option for entertainment? Sounds like they're struggling to feel good at all if hurting people for a quick fix is the only time they're happy, or like they've learned that other people deserve to suffer (and where did that belief come from?).
They think that they're pure evil and act the part? Damn, that's a lot of self hatred they've got going on. "I'm irredeemably bad" isn't really a nice way to see yourself. I wonder when they learned to see themselves that way. I wonder how they learned that "acting evil" was something they had to do. I wonder if anyone ever respected or listened to them when they were "good", how "being evil" might've protected or helped them at some point when all the "good" people were failing them.
They're pissed off constantly for "no reason" and make it everyone else's problem? Where did that anger come from in the first place? Who's helping them deal with it? No one? Being nice and punching a pillow doesn't always make a dent in that kind of anger, especially if it's decades of everyone else's "I can't feel this right now" rage. That sucks to deal with. It's not like you taught them any better coping skills while you were shoving them away for having those feelings at all, though. They're stuck trying to cope with overwhelming rage alone. Lashing out makes it feel better.
They're shredding your body and forcing you to watch? Threatening suicide? It's their body too. They're willing to shred or kill themselves just to hurt you. Doesn't sound like it's just about hurting you for shits and giggles at that point. Lack of control over their own life, trauma re-enactment, self-hatred, overwhelming emotion, terminal boredom, whatever. There's a bigger problem going on.
They're not "pure evil"; every other person in their life is actively failing to understand and support them.
Stop treating your headmates as subhuman to make yourselves feel better about them acting against your personal morals. Start asking why they're doing this shit in the first place.
spirits don't have to be your friend. the rock in your backyard doesn't have to behave like a human or be useful to you to deserve respect. there is inherent value in loving the web of spirits that surrounds us without asking what they can do for us.
I think that more people in the occult community should do outdoor sports (hear me out)
Rock climbing and mountaineering drastically shifted my perspective and understanding of the way I interact with and interpret spirits.
You can be exhausted to the point of tears, bruised, bleeding (limestone is sharp) and the mountain will be as it always has been. The rocks will not work with you, are are working with them. You asked to be there, you came to the mountian and asked to step on it, and walk with it.
Ive tried surfing, got my ass kicked by the smallest wave exerting hundres of pounds of force without any effort.
From a witchcraft perspective, we seem to recognize huge forces of nature as great and powerful when there is something obviously drastic happening, like a thunderstorm or tornado. We know that there is danger but we talk about it like reckoning rather than simply a process of nature. The storm is not angry at you, personally, it is just a storm (and all of the energy and power that comes with it is also indifferent to you).
Plants don't grow for us, anyone who's had an uncomfortable brush with poison ivy can tell you that much, they just grow and we can learn to use them and work with them, but they would grow regardless.
And this is my opinion, based on my expiriances, but interacting with nature in such a way that youre trying to accomplish a goal (like summiting a mountian or climbing a rout or rafting a river or skiing a slope etc) really helps put it into perspective that its not just the large terrifying forces of a thunderstorm that are indifferent to you, its all of it, and that is why you have to learn to work with it through that lense of choice.
You are choosing to try and work with the spirits around you, not the other way around.
Of course you dont /have/ to be an ultra marathoner or mountian biker to come to this conclusion, but I think that there's something about the direct goal oriented physicality that, when relying on the features of nature specifically, helps to put it into perspective.
(This is also a reason why I love survival stories, it really puts the indifference into perspective. I highly recommend the two podcasts National Park After Dark and Tooth and Claw for fun survival and animal attack stories)
kissing you on the mouth for this take /silly
I'm afraid I could ramble for literally forever about how outdoor sports have changed my perspective of nature spirits, especially Scandinavian trolls and huldrefolk. I think a disconnect I run into quite often in occult communities is that a lot of people want to work nature spirits, especially ones that can be quite destructive (not to say they are evil), and want to interpret them as misunderstood, completely benevolent. And I don't want the opposite, which is fear-mongering, but I think a lot of people would deeply benefit from spending time in nature, specifically in places where it's not comfortable.
I think you've touched on a major part of how outdoor sports can influence understandings of animism and nature spirits. I do climb, but am definitely much more of a caver. I love caves, but a conversation I have with friends frequently when caving is a debate about whether the cave wants us there. I think especially of a trip where I was underground for three days, mapping an especially remove part of the cave that would take at least a full day of travel to get to. I had taken a fall the day the day before due to a rock breaking beneath me, cut myself badly in a moment of no-gloves, had more bruises than I've ever seen on a person, and was shivering hard. I was told I could cry once without judgement.
My brain lapsed in judgement, and I got myself badly wedged for a minute. The realization hit me, of how far I was in the cave, how many factors were stacked against me, and how the only way I could get out would be if I got myself out. I've had similar experiences when my climbing shoes are making my feet bleed, my arms and legs are giving out on me, and I'm multiple pitches up a mountain. I don't think enough people spend time in nature where there's this sense of survival, where you there's no easy way out, no easy rescue, and your environment does not care if you live or die.
I don't think nature is evil, but I recognize it as an uncaring and indifferent force. It is actively hostile to my survival, and also necessary to it. And I think this is a perspective closer to how people centuries ago would've understood nature spirits in a way that's become foreign with our modern comforts. I genuinely believe that when you're pushed to your limits, the reality of how harsh natural environments can be is striking. I feel like I cannot put into the words the experience, but it's also the moments where I feel the most connected to the world. Those moments where my muscles burn, I feel like I can't get enough air into my lungs, and I'm fighting to stay warm enough to last the trip. There's a weird serenity that comes with the pain, a type of religion in surrendering to the aspects of nature that you cannot control.
Obviously, I don't expect everyone to go out and do some extreme outdoor sports. I recognize that ability looks different for everyone. I do, however, think there's small ways we can all recognize that nature as indifferent exists everywhere around us, the minute we shed our comforts. And nature is beautiful and full of love, but it would be wrong to stop acknowledging how wild it truly is.
Oh its almost comical how similar the situation that brought me to this realization was (although I was climbing, not caving).
It was one of my first multis when I started to want to get into big walls (still would love to when Im done with college and have the time).
I was exhausted from the approach and freezing cold on the exposed rock face. Our rope had landed in the stream below the first pitch, which wasnt dangerous but it did add weight stress and cold to an already very cold climb.
I was a few pitches in, absolutely exhausted, terrified of the heights, fighting the wind and snow, and struggling immensely with what was supposed to be an easy 5.8 crack. My knuckles were bleeding from my failed attempts at hand jamming and I was starting feel my forearms giving up, all while knowing that we were at a no bail portion of the climb, and that there was absolutely no reason for me not to be able to pull past that section, not to mention that my climbing partner had no idea I was struggling below them given we were far out of sight and unable to hear through the wind and snow.
I remember completely loosing it momentarily, I even slapped the rock face (as if it cared) and fully panicked when I realized how stupid I was to put my self in that situation as an inexperienced climber.
I'm pretty positive it was that exact moment that I realized how in-human the mountians are. They absolutely do not care that I am struggling, I came to them. Ironically it calmed me down enough to snap me out of it so I could finish the route. It gives a sort of ecstasy to have that feeling of understanding.
I think its exactly like you say, theyre not evil, theyre not good. I see this assignment of human morals to rocks or plants or animals or even whole areas pretty often, and Im definitely guilty of using words to describe spirits and interactions with them in a way that is too anthropomorphizing to be accurate. The thing is they /are/ misunderstood, but its because we try to understand them through a human lense.
And you're right, everyone's ability is different, I do not expect every witch to traverse thousands of feet of harsh and sharp rocks to be able to determine such things, but I agree whole heartedly that recognizing the very specific discomfort that comes with the choice to engage with an indifferent environment is something that can change someone's belief or perspective entirely.

Question about the multiverse theory. What do you think the connection between the universe where something is real and the author in our universe who writes a similar story? Are they inspired by the alternate universe or does their writing bring it into existence or is it a complete coincidence or something else? I assume theres a lot of differing thoughts about this so just your personal thoughts and/or the most common in the community if there is one
Have a great day :]
Oh this is always such a great question to answer.
I think it depends on the author.
I think in many cases, since the multiverse is so infinitely vast and contains literally every possible universe and every possible story that can be told, MOST authors are simply inventing a story and writing down something the coincidentally resembles the events in another universe.
However, in some cases I definitely think authors are inspired by memories of lives in previous universe they've lived through without knowing it, or being inspired by characters visiting them through soulbonds or other forms of attachment.

Do you have any tips for helping alters the system previously fucked over?
We have a few headmates who definitely weren't treated right by our previous host/s. And we're working on being better at accepting eachother/improving communication but it's. Still a struggle and I really don't know how to approach certain alters at all. And I don't even know if they'd want to talk things out. (Or even if it's my place to do so? I didn't even exist when everything happened)
Doesn't entirely matter if it's "your place" to do this. Sure, it'd mean more as a gesture if the folks involved in screwing them over are the ones making amends, but it's got to start with someone. If that someone's you, then it's better than no one giving a shit at all. At least one person cares if you reach out. And if one person cares about you, then you get a shot at relearning everything stolen from you by the situation you were stuck in. Reach out. Don't overthink it.
On 'The Opposition to Authenticity', Introspection and Expectations.
Maybe it's an unpopular opinion but not everyone's capacity for introspection is an untapped well of internality that's waiting to hoisted upward (mostly through definably meaningful activities such as meditation, long term journaling and essay writing). Despite not everyone perceives their kin (or other types) as something that has always been lying dormant that just need the right amount of deep and completely internalised self-reflection to release the "truth" of. The image of the alterhuman (namely the therian and otherkin expirence distinctively) sees the self as a lone, independent entity whose only external influences come maybe from deities or other personal spiritual guidance. The end result is an unshakable sense of authentic "true" self, maybe a hero's journey or metamorphosis (like a catapillar becoming a butterfly) could be apt comparisons.
Adding a thanks to this essay for inspiring some of this section reflecting on the concept if alterhumanity as a framework vs a form
I think it's why we get the "anti puppyposting" mindset in part. The alterhuman journey exists in opposition to what is perceived as "consumerist" or "substanceless" or "aestheticised" puppyposting, in this instance is seen as the antithesis of authenticity. It's natural that a community that wishes to stand for authentic experience and true self discovery would eskew anything that seemed to reflect "consumerism" (god forbid!). We cannot make our community seem to embrace the concepts of which we are, by definition opposed. I think with this has come the raising of certain standards of what it means to be alterhuman and what's expected in the identity of community members.
Honestly, goddamn, nearly a decade and I still feel compelled to diminish my own identity and experiences sometimes.
I still get this instinctual shame, this fear that I'm Doing Too Much if I try to assert my identity and experiences as something serious and worthy of consideration. Like my ability of being worthy of respect is forever overshadowed by the fact that my source material is Epicly Cringe Crossover for Dumb Babies/D*sney Adults
Like, I dunno, maybe there is an Inherent Humor to be found in being fictional, but do we really gotta lean into it so much?
[ just putting a warning here since this is kinda venty/ranty and perhaps slightly aggressive?? but I don't wanna start anything I'm just frustrated and needed somewhere to put it ]
me when people assume traumagenic = REAL and CORRECT and NORMAL and endogenic = VOLUNTARY and FAKING and HARMFUL and if you're anything in between SURELY you must be supporting "the bad guys"!
Like dude no! I'm mixed origin (traumagenic + spiritual), and there are likely a lot of other endogenic origins that are ALSO involuntary! My issue is mostly with people acting like spiritual plurality is fucked up and evil because it's what I've experienced the most, but I'm sure there are others who have gone through what I have but for different reasons. Also, singlets are allowed to have beliefs and experiences regarding their origins that aren't simply "I'm a normal human and nothing else", they're allowed to say they believe they're here for a reason, but the second a collective does it it's somehow the worst thing ever? That sounds more pluralphobic than the existence of endos man I dunno..
.
would you mind talking a bit about your experiences with court dynamics? we'd love to hear ways it compares/contrasts to more 'pop culture' understandings thereof.
ah ! well , easiest way to answer is to copy over from dreamwidth :D
--
well , court is not inborn biological thing like what some people think . by all means can be born in specific court , right , but can also leave , choose to change .
little bit more like relationship humans might have with countries - some can be very ride or die loyal and see as something inherently worth pride , some see as just place that happen to be and people that happen to know .
some do not leave because this court suit well enough , some love court and have no plans leave , others leave because of hate court , or even put in some kind of danger . some take birth court as important piece in identity , others could not care any less - especially as for some faeries , this is separate by centuries .
but also , not literally countries ? theoretically any faerie can just start up and make new court - maybe other courts not really suit needs , or take leave from one with some close friends . some faeries also not really part of courts , just solitary .
courts also do not always have connection to ... " theme " , will say to be simple - sometimes just theme , but also sometimes deeper , like object of reverence or representation . and , well , courts can share these themes ! even big courts like seelie and winter not universal ... seelie and unseelie especially , haha .
what that means is local faeries who style selves as summer court might actually be small local court - possibly direct branch from larger summer court , but possibly not .
these themes also do not necessarily connect to what all of population is , especially in bigger courts . will not always need to have personal connection with moon , or snow and ice , or daisies and sunshines to take place in given courts - even if some might question choices . and , again , not always have such theme . sometimes court is just court , faeries that choose to exist together without something " special " bind together .
so : say if some faeries split off of larger local moon court . maybe these faeries might wear connection to moon as pride still , and so become local court of full moon or gibbous moon .
or this court might take more vague connection of shadows and nighttime things , and maybe start to see faeries of caves and underground join up .
or … no theme connection at all , just choose to be together because want to be , regardless of all else .
court kossai here is court without such " theme " . kossai is word in language of home realm , but what this means is secret ! kossai all just faeries that happen to choose and like each other around here , and , sometimes that is all which court need to be . :)
singletnormativity; proposal for a definition, and some examples
What is singletnormativity?
The concept currently has no formal, concrete definition, so let us propose one:
Singletnormativity is the assumption that everyone one interacts with is a singlet, ie is the sole occupant of their body. In other words, it is treating non-plurals and their experiences as the default and not accounting for anyone who falls outside that, consciously or not.
2. What are some examples of singletnormativity?
The assumption all systems possess (or should possess) a collective identity, a collective name, collective pronouns, collective labels, etc.
The assumption of a singular, unchanging presentation of identity in polls, surveys, questionnaires, etc.
An unwillingness to consider plural interpretations and analyses of media, dismissing them by deeming them "unworthy of exploration", accusing plural systems of "making everything about themselves", etc.
The assumption that plurality is always disordered, and thus must be diagnosed and treated so that the plural system can "return" to a state of singularity.
The belief that that state of singularity is inherently desirable to and good for all, making a lack of such a desire "unnatural".
A refusal to treat any headmates in a system outside of the one perceived as "the host" as people in their own right, dismissing any opinions and preferences they might express (or attributing them to "the host"), considering them to not be real, reducing them to imaginary friends and related concepts.
And more I haven't listed here.

Touch your fingertips together.
Start with your thumbs and activate the energy channels there. Feel the transfer of energy. Spend about 2-3 minutes here.
