Constantly thinking about gay blade from the Eric Andre show
The United States of America has never been and never will be a democracy unless by “democracy” you mean Athenian.
It began as a slaveowners’ republic and it transitioned into a shareholders’ republic. Now fascism seeks to abolish even that minimal “democracy” in order to more fully realize America’s most racist, nationalist, antidemocratic traditions.
Yes, there’s a difference in severity between chattel, wage, and death camp slavery and yet the oppression and exploitation by a racist ruling class persists despite and across these differences. It is a transition between one mode of bourgeois rule to another, from the old labor regime to the new. This is a tendency that is particularly exemplified by the popular saying that “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”
I am not so much interested in maintaining the rule of class society but with the aesthetic and illusion of freedom just as I am not interested in a class society which rejects even that illusion. I reject the legitimacy of class society to structure labor and politics at all and demand without compromise the revolutionary democracy of the working class and oppressed nations.
Our enemies are not only those who oppose any form of democracy but also those antidemocratic state leaders who nonetheless speak in great platitudes about the virtues of what is ultimately a bourgeois republicanism that serves only the interests of the bourgeoisie while claiming to be in the interests of all classes.
That is the clarion call of the radical masses - the recognition of what we lack, the potential of what could be, and a combativeness towards the enemy who declares himself our enemy and the enemy who declares himself our friend. This land is not a democracy, but it could be.
Saw this comment by @genquerdeer and went looking for the map. I think the map truly does speak for how "white" it is to call Hamas terrorists.
"You cannot comment about conservativism because of you're gay" is going to be a phrase rattling around my head for a while.
women have been talking about this for a while just observationally on dating apps etc, it's really interesting seeing the data supporting it. this is real bad

“But do not use that genocide to describe another one!”
Iconic words.
the barbie oscars discourse on twitter is legit making me insane. i thought these kind of people only existed in parodies or in "make up a guy and get mad at them" tweets. but no. it's real. it's fucking real.
Dare I ask what's happening?
long story short:
The Oscars dropped the nominated films for the 2024 Academy Awards. For a rather dire year in movies, the lists are pretty fucking solid (notably with the nominations of Justine Triet in Best Director, and Lily Gladstone and Sandra Hüller in Best Actress, in my opinion)
Barbie got nominated eight times, including for Best Picture, making it the 4th most nominated film behind Oppenheimer, Poor Things and Killers of the Flower Moon. A rather great number of nominations and surprising considering Barbie is a blockbuster, the kind of thing the academy awards stray away from (Greta Gerwig was a regular of the Academy Awards, so it might have helped)
But it wasn't nominated for Best Director (Greta Gerwig) nor Best Actress (Margot Robbie). And some people got MAD that the movie that is, essentially, a toy commercial reference-fest with a non-scenario (PERSONAL OPINION) didn't get one or two more nominations. And it went downhill from here, like Ryan Gosling (nominated as best supporting actor) wrote an apology letter apologizing for his own nomination, hundreds of people undermining the work of other women because Barbie is the only feminist film possible to them, or HILLARY FUCKING CLINTON(?????) writing a TWEET/INSTAGRAM POST OF SUPPORT for the movie that got nominated EIGHT TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's especially dire that they imply that Margot Robbie should get an award over Lily Gladstone, the first Native American actress to get nominated in the Best Actress category. Or the ignorance and rather disdain for the more auteur, half-french speaking Anatomy of a Fall, which was directed by a woman and got nominated for best director.
i really really hate liberals who do volunteering for orgs that help the homeless and then write thinkpieces about how a lot of homeless people are very educated and hardworking and its not at all their fault that theyre unhoused like. even if ur hypothetical homeless person is addicted to every drug abused their whoever commited many crimes and their situation is every bit their fault. no one deserves to live on the street.
what walking/cycling around the city every night with a bike basket full of sandwiches accompanied only by another volunteer for almost a yeat has taught ME is that in the winter its really cold and after an hour we both wanted to go in anywhere warm, but every single business requires you to be a paying customer to sit inside, subway stations have staff that chase you away if youre sitting there long enough and even heating vents have spikes on them, and that in the summer its incredibly hot even at night and cops chase you away from fountains and the city is full of tourists and partying people that make it impossible to sleep on benches and that in the spring it rains and in the fall it also rains and that your only source of food is going to be a couple of teenagers and uni students volunteering in their spare time to make you a sandwich. and my conclusion from this, is what everyones conclusion should be. this is inhumane and no one deserves to live this way
