So at my new job the other day some of my coworkers were talking about the type of music they listen to. As I listened to them, one by one, elaborate on the reason why they listen to generic music. I hear my manager turn to me and ask " Hey, Steve, What kind of music do you listen to?" The dreadful question which I tend to avoid when meeting new people. How could I even begin do describe to my new manager that I am stuck in a ＶｉｒｔｕａｌＰｌａｚａ™? So this leads me to my question and a question im sure a lot of people may have. What is vaporwave? A quick search online will lead you to an array of cancerous pictures/videos/music and a whole bunch of normies saying "aesthetic" a million times. But behind the living proof that cancer is contagious is a mysterious genre. When attempting to describe to my manager what vaporwave was, I began to realize that it was almost impossible to put into words. Or at least words that could describe the genre as a whole. So I gave him the good ol' "Slowed down elevator muzak..." As I struggled to not look like a complete loser in front of my new coworkers I pleaded to them that it was an art movement that basically limits people from being able to capitalize on art. The first time I heard about vaporwave was through a youtube comment some left on Earl Sweatshirts - Solace. I searched it up listened to one of Jason Sanders vaporwave mixes. I was somewhat disturbed by the genre at first. The creepy art along with the eerie slowed down music really made me wonder how anyone could listen to such a genre. But as a person that listens to just about anything that has a melody I continued to listen. At first I didnt like the genre much i used it as an outlet to expand my horizons with new genres of music. After a while the music began to get stuck it in my head. The repetitive basslines and echoes kept playing over and over in my head until i head to physically hear them. And from there on its like it spread like a virus. I literally cannot stop listening to vaporwave anymore. Vaporwave has become a lifestyle for me now.
