i hate it when i despise a girl because my low self esteem and insecurity has made it so that ive interpreted her kindness toward me as mockery and condescension so i torment her for a long time but then she turns out to have a crush on me and a picture of me in her locket and i thought i had the upper hand for a moment having this information over her but now i have to confront the fact that me torturing her and being evil this entire time was pointless because she actually likes me and i just didnt believe her because i thought i wasnt good enough for her and maybe this whole thing would be easier if she didnt care about me. and i also kinda like her back but also i still have internalized homophobia. anyway so hi my name is shiori takatsuki

I hate rgu fan's refusal to accept the idea that the show is racist. anthy is a south-asian coded racialized character who unfortunately plays into a lot of stereotypes associated with south asians. the only reason we know she is south asian is because of the bindi on her forehead. akio as the representative of the patriarchy is south asian and plays into the "brown rapist" stereotype. the only reason anthy and akio were racialized was to Other them. to say that the show is a thoughtful depiction of racism and colonialism is to give the show far more credit than it deserves. to say that race is a blind spot in the show is doing much the same. that's not to say that any analysis of utena through the lense of race is worthless, it actually adds to the show's critique of the structures of oppression. especially since racism is kind of inseparable to them. but that analysis can go hand in hand with acknowledging the show's inherent racism. a lot of south asians, including me identify with anthy as a character and they have given a lot of excellent meta that enriches the show but i don't want anyone to use that fact as a card to deny her orientalized depiction.

to add to this, a lot of rgu fans who try to analyse the show through a racial lense will impose western ideas of race onto the characters, this feels like ignorance of the very idea that racism can exist beyond the white/poc dichotomy and it's racism within itself. every character in the show is japanese in a japanese setting, anthy and akio are racialized due to being the only south asians in a majorly japanese setting. any analysis of utena that doesn't take this fact into account is worthless.

Ruka is a man of his word, so I'm sure he released Shiori.

shout-out to characters who let their childhood friend situationship dictate the course of their life to a degree that spits in the face of any and all reason. they're doing important work.

You know if Utena was in deltarune there would be an attack where a staggered circle of swords directs inward in endless waves until the end of the attack to impale a central point and you have to weave around the projectiles to avoid getting hit. There would also be some bullshit with cars. Miki’s would be sheet music that turns your soul blue and you can only skip up and down between the lines and he consistently hits you with the first 5 notes of sunlit garden. Kozue has one similar attack but the notes sound wrong and are disjointed and erratically timed and placed, making it harder to predict. When you think you’ve defeated shiori she pulls a hahaha, the joke’s on you, you haven’t seen my special attack I’ve been charging up this whole time!, vindictively incapacitates you, and needless to say blows herself up to high heaven. Nanami’s has elephants and various animals charging across the box to stampede Nanami that you have to dodge and she’s like UGH. WHAT’S WITH THESE ELEPHANTS??? Anthy’s “attacks” are mainly you dodging stuff directed at her, but she will tamper with the Spare option and trying to select it will cause her to send long awful waves of difficult attacks straight across the box directly targeted at you. If you survive these rounds and still insist on Spare she will try to crash the game to push you out. The game will fake freeze and you’ll get a fake pop-up to End Program or Wait. selecting either will fade the fight to white and bring you back to the overworld with her gone, but you will have a few extra dialogue lines before then if you select Wait & it unlocks something in the future. your soul is pink

Based on this piece in Utena? (Oh My!) UTENA! [Newtype, November 1997] by T. Takeyuki.

I messed up a little bit-- in tracing, I forgot to mirror the piece (punchneedle is worked from the back). Thankfully the piece works both ways, and I caught the error in time to at least get the signature looking correct from the front!

I also originally intended this as a rug. But due to a variety of factors*, I didn't have enough of the dark purple/blue. To ensure it would last the whole piece, I used an extremely low pile, and in the process of trimming I realized there was no way this thing would survive foot traffic. So a wall hanging it became. *me falling in love with a 20-year+ discontinued colorway of yarn
