It's because I get to play him that I get to feel this way. So it isn't the same as drawing or writing or anything. It's playing as him and embodying him and being absorbed into that world.
There is definitely a feeling of dysphoria that I can't be there, that it isn't really me being transported, that I cannot be him at the same time as being myself, that being myself necessitates having existed under conditions that mean I cannot have been him,
but its also true that it's only by being myself in my own existence that I could have understood this.
So, it feels weird -- even though there are plenty of physiological, psychological, physical, etc reasons for this to be the case and it's a very normal human experience. In one way or another.
I am not literally physically placed in the world of Hyrule, a fictional place thought up by other human beings, but I am literally, physically able to play this game. And, it is a physical game physically made by humans, played on physical hardware manufactured and assembled by humans, with materials produced, mined, refined by humans and further is the product of a collective, global perpetuation of art and existence.
Every part of a game’s world is made, and it's made by people. When a box is placed it’s placed by a person. Textures, painted, photographed, assigned to objects. LODs made and tested, creating the illusion of distance.
[Physical machine decides via electricity and light when to show them in a virtual world.]
[Physical machine computes the time it takes to swing a sword, relayed in slices of light.]
--> All translated, overlapping and living and historified and real.
An object full of objects. A story full of stories. The game is a creature molded out of fiction, an imprint folded over itself, made of everything that’s real in our world.
