1. I will always find it weird for an adult to think a child is being "manipulative" because a child quite literally doesn't have the brain development to understand what manipulation is or why they shouldn't be manipulative.

2. Yes, Disabled adults *can* be manipulative, as any adult can be. However, I think it's important to realize that Disabled people are somewhat set up to be strategic in order to get needs met. This can essentially train us to lean into manipulative behaviors. Direct and clear communication is often not only inconsistent, but we are also at high risk if it fails. This means that we can be placed in a similar state of vulnerability as children, where we simply have to be strategic to survive (or at least that is the instinct).

Like we have commodified human connection to a degree where if you go beyond smalltalk you're oversharing and if you talk too deeply about your life you're traumadumping and if you get visibly upset you're manipulative and if you care too much you're codependent and if you want to talk about anything heavy you're expected to go hire a therapist because your friends shouldn't have to deal with that stuff and yet we're all sitting around wondering why so many people are lonely...

in general i feel like the way people talk about closeted and pre transition/no transition trans people teeters on fucked up a lot of the time.

its so often an uncomfortable mix of pity, disdain, and just... palpable levels of projection.

like idk. its hard to articulate really but, as someone who will likely always be closeted because i'm in the american south and am disabled so rely on my family, i really really just do not care for the posts that are like. insinuating that its some point of weakness that you need to find the strength to overcome or else you'll never "blossom" or whatever the fuck. like actually i would just rather not die or make my life irreparably 1000x worse
