Afro-latin@s struggle with being ignored by the media because for some reason people don’t believe you can be both Latino and Black. This is why there’s so much controversy when it comes to race and ethnicity. People try to paint Latin@s as this light brown or even white skinned when there are many dark skinned Latin@s. They are in all parts of South America, Central America, the Caribbean, & in North America (Mexico). Unfortunately, these folks aren’t represented in the media much and we have portrayed Latin@s in a certain way that has shaped the thoughts of others when they hear that word.

^ Say that. There’s the blatant erasure by the media, as well as the fellow Latinxs who shun blackness. Then there’s the serious lack of knowledge by people who still don’t understand the clear difference between race and ethnicity, and assume Black means “African American” (which it does not), so as a result they question your identity. Race does not denote one’s ethnicity/ethnicities. Latinxs do not have a specific look or skin color. There are sooooooo many brown skin Latinxs out here.

How To Spot & Help Someone Dissociating.

What dissociation can look like (it exists on a spectrum :D) : 

- Staring vacantly 

- Spacing out 

- Being unable to focus/respond properly 

- Being unable to speak 

To support someone who dissociates, it’s best to:

- Orient them to the present by reminding them where they are and what was happening when they were having trouble staying present. 

- Help encourage slow breathing. 

- Remind them to keep their eyes open and look around the room. 

- Encourage them to notice physical sensations. 

- Offer verbal reassurance in a calm voice. 

- Avoid asking complex questions. (Instead, ask simple things to try to connect. “Are you with me?” “Can you stay present with me?”)

- Allow them the necessary time and space to regain their equilibrium.

seriously though, imagine a teenager in like 2113 diving into the early internet out of boredom or for a school project or something and he comes across your blog that you stopped posting on around 2024 but they cal still see all your posts, all your thoughts, your silly convos with your friends, all the stupid discourse you were in, all your interests, the art and writing youve posted/reblogged, everything about you just right there. they impossibly stumbled onto such an obscure corner of the internet, sure to be much more wide and advanced than it is today, and they can peer into your life for just a bit, even though you died ages ago. its like they found your ghost, a small imprint you left online, they found you, you might be gone but youre also right there.
