I wonder how many gay people are actually transgender & dont know it because people thing being transgender is transitioning when it’s literally just not being cis.

like I had a friend tell me last night “all my life I wanted to be a girl. even to this day, like if someone told me I could transition & look like you or *insert another trans woman idk* I would do it in a heartbeat” and when I was like omg ur transgender he was surprised? like he was like wait just wanting to be a girl makes me transgender even if I dont do anything about it? and like its harder to pinpoint non binary people but if u have a desire be a different gender ur transgender. transitioning is a choice but being transgender is not.

The day I realized I was Nonbinary was wild because I simply said, “I used to pray not to get boobs” and my friend went, “girls don’t usually pray to NOT get boobs”

Then I sort of went on a short spiral because how could I have not realized that?!

As a cis girl, I’ve never wanted to be another gender. For me, that would be like wanting to be….idk a sock. It just never crossed my mind, and even when I considered it, I pretty much immediately went “¯\_(ツ)_/¯ nah”

So if you find yourself questioning and/or longing for another gender or sex-related physical attribute, listen to the above folks!!!

This makes non-binary and transgender mean the exact same thing though. It’s not. If you’re not cis you’re non-binary, and if you specifically want to be the gender not assigned to you at birth all the time then you’re transgender. Me, for example, I don’t particularly like being man, but I don’t always feel more comfortable being a woman either. I’m not transgender, I’m non-binary.

transgender is an umbrella term, you can either be a binary transgender or a non binary transgender, but either you’re cis or trans.

Non-binary Presentation Terms

Although words like butch, femme, masc, and fem have been applied to nonbinary folk since their inception, they don’t always meet the needs of non-binary people in comfortably describing the way we look. 

So here are a new additional set of options! We’ve considered two different “axes” here – one that relates most closely to the masc—fem scale, and one that considers “effort”, or a level of… drama or ostentation in a look. They can be combined as one pleases or used individually! 

Additionally, please apply them at will to yourself based on your own ideas about what it means to dress femininely or dramatically or androgynously etc. These words are not to be held hostage to cissexism or gender roles. These words also describe presentations that are inherently not binary – the only reason we’re using words like “masculine” and “feminine” to describe them at all is for ease of communication. They can and should describe particular looks, including those that people are inclined to gender, without actually gendering them. 

Note: These are not coined with the intention of being gender identities. They have nothing inherently to do with gender identity. You can be a demigirl stag, etc. (That said, if someone wants to use them as a gender because you feel it’s tied closely to your presentation, we’re certainly not stopping you.) 

Here they are!

Stag: A “masc”, “butch” or “tomcat” equivalent, describing a presentation one considers to be associated with ideas about masculinity, or a presentation others might consider masculine. 

Fox: Describing an androgynous, fluid, or combined presentation; can be applied to any presentation a person feels doesn’t resemble the other sides of the spectrum.  

Swan: A “femme/fem” or “doe” equivalent, describing a presentation one considers to be associated with ideas about femininity, or a presentation others might consider feminine. 

Sparrow: A casual, minimalist, muted or low-effort presentation. For example, for those folks who just roll through their closet and go. 

Crow: For presentations that are in-between, combined, or fluid along a scale of effort/ostentation. 

Peacock: For presentations that are high effort. Glam, dramatic, flashy, flamboyant, attention-drawing, etc. Dressed to the nines, so to speak!

u might start to notice dysphoria more often after coming out

feeling uncertain is pretty universal

it’s ok to experience these things, it sucks but it fades over time + in no way does it invalidate yr gender. it gets better, i promise.

Also:

You won’t experience all the different kinds of dysphoria (physical, social or otherwise) all at once, or constantly. Feelings come and go and change about, sometimes on a daily schedule. Doesn’t mean they’re not real.

You may feel dysphoric about things in hindsight, despite accepting them at the time. This doesn’t mean you are inventing your dysphoria now: it’s still real.

It’s okay to faff about with different words for yourself. Words are hard.

It’s also all right not to have any words for yourself. See above point: words are hard.

It is completely okay to realise you’re not trans. Questioning your identity and learning more about yourself is only a good thing, and “detransitioning” isn’t the big scary demon that people make it out to be. People change, and how different narratives apply to you aren’t always relevant. This doesn’t make you fake, or a bad person: it just means you’re honest with yourself and that’s never a bad thing.

Canadians Can Now Identify As Gender Neutral On Their Passports

Citizens can opt for an ‘X’ to indicate that they are non-binary.

Canada has become the first North American country to allow its citizens to identify as gender neutral on their passports.

Instead of identifying as male or female, citizens can opt for an ‘X’ on their passports and other government documents to indicate that they are non-binary.

Other countries who have made the move include Germany, Australia, and Pakistan.

What does identifying as genderless on your passport accomplish? What if literally ever person requested a passport like this? Why include sex on a passport at all if it is interchangeable with gender identity and thus meaningless? I don’t believe in discrimination against people based on how they chose to present themselves, but I wonder what is then point?

Vancouver-based filmmaker Joshua M. Ferguson, who uses the pronouns they/them, said in a statement that they will be applying to have the ‘X’ designation on their passport today.

Ferguson, who is from Ontario, was the first person in that province to apply for a non-binary birth certificate but they are still waiting for that to come through; they are also waiting to find out if BC will approve an ‘X’ on their health card and driver’s license.

“Non-binary people like me experience emotional distress and encounter difficult situations in public when our forms of identification do not match our gender identity and gender expression,” said Ferguson.

This year, though, AP was outdone by The Chicago Manual of Style, which announced the publication of its 17th edition at ACES. CMOS, as it’s affectionately called, has been a touchstone for book publishing and academic writing since 1906. While CMOS still cautions that “the use of singular they in place of a generic he or she is not recommended for formal prose,” it is allowing the nonbinary-gender sense as a personal pronoun.

But Chicago has taken this change a step further: Carol Fisher Saller, editor of CMOS’s Online Q&A, announced that the Chicago Manual will allow themself to be used as a reflexive singular pronoun.
