It's so hard to come to that conclusion though, like at this point unalive is a part of gen Z culture. It's just using a word, they're not even thinking about talking on TikTok or YouTube anymore, they're just talking. It's a lot like people getting mad over AAVE because it's not grammatically correct and yes it's not, but AAVE is a cultural usage of English, a dialect if you will. They use it because their friends and family use it, everyone talks that way. Nobody thinks about grammar when speaking AAVE. It's actually kind of offensive if you try to correct someone. It's like that with unalive too. It's a clashing of culture, we don't understand it because we see it as it was formed, a response to a shitty half ass language filter, not as it is used, which is just another word for kill, death, or died. I really think this one is just not a big deal enough to fight. I think that teacher in the first part, while I agree with the sentiment and find the story funny, it's also in my opinion not about maturity but just a culture thing.

I had a thought but didn't clearly express it is what.

I meant to say that AAVE is not grammatically correct in a traditional sense the same way unalive is different from the traditional sense. I chose to compare gen z culture to AAVE specifically because gen z culture also adapted a lot of those words too, like no cap, finna, bussin, etc. The same way gen z also uses unalive. And that is just my observation of how language and culture evolve, I'm not even saying gen z can't say die or kill but they've been using unalive so much that it lost the irony the same way yeet did for millenials.

from a comment I made, since I've done too much game reverse engineering:

my "magic debugging" brain says it's probably something like they have like a CharacterProfile object that contains things like gender and starting perks, and a perk is something like "your bullets do 5% more damage". When loading a game, sometimes the CharacterProfile object doesn't get properly initialized, causing your gun to fail to work since it can't check if you have that perk.

But if you go into your character profile and swap your gender, it re-initializes the CharacterProfile object, making your gun work again.

Presumably any other change you could make to the profile would also fix it, but gender is the easiest one to change.

Asexuals have been saying it for years, but there is no pivot here. This is not the right suddenly going “NOT sexualizing things is bad too!”. Throwback to the time about 5 years ago that me and a bunch of other aces were accused of being pedos because we were talking about how asexuality needs to be openly discussed so kids know it’s an option and that they’re not broken. Apparently that was ‘thinking about children sexually’ by acknowledging that kids and teens know what the fuck is happening to their peers and siblings.

This was, of course, when there was a lot of debate about whether we were allowed to call ourselves queer or be part of the community. Those that hated us quickly resorted to accusing aces (queer people) of pedophilia, just like any other conservative does.
