Recently I keep thinking about a Chaos Space Marine warband based on Nosferatu (all three movies and maybe a little bit the V:tM Clan). They’d be a Blood Angels successor chapter who fell to Nurgle. Grandfather cured their rage and helped them embrace their thirst, but gave them Gifts in return. Now they’re hideous bald corpse marines with jagged teeth and decaying black power armor. Drinking blood, spreading plague, swarming with rats and ratlike nurglings. Instead of bloated like Plague Marines, they’d be disturbingly thin and skeletal (especially at Space Marine height). I imagine their sigil being like the Purge one, but with three rats instead of three flies.
Despite wanting to strangle him sometimes, I really do have a soft spot for Typhus.
Philosophizing on his relationship with Mortarion. Their relationship was really uneven. Mortarion being the leader of the two of them. It was always what Mortarion wants mostly not Typhus.
He wanted to leave.
Mortarion told him they were staying and he should try and earn respect. To Calas these are the people who killed his mother. Who've rejected him at every turn.
It's a constant pattern.
Mortarion wants to start an open rebellion.
Ok I hate those guys anyways. Plus I realized I enjoy being a fighter.
Mortarion doesn't want to use witchcraft to face off against Nacare.
I'll back off of it for now.
Join him as an astartes.
I'm not leaving him plus I've always felt fighting is what I want to do with my life. Plus I get to be a Librarian!
Mortarion bans the Librarians.
Fine I guess but hey I eventually become First Captain.
Rebel against the Emperor.
I helped organize but I think I now need time to find answers.
To him it's always what Mortarion wants. If they have any huge disagreement Mortarion is going to get what he wants. Any major plans Mortarion has, he follows. Anything else he has to sneak around.
Him joining Nurgle is something he really wants. And he can't loose Mortarion by this point. During his teenage years and into adulthood, all he had is Mortarion.
So he decides to force the issue. Mortarion won't join willingly. After all it's what's best for both of them.
Of course on Mortarion's side, he was lax with Typhon
Even overlooking Typhon's little pseudo librarians
Letting him go off at the start of the Heresy.
(And later after the Heresy)
But moving on, this could possibly explain why partially Typhus is pissed at Mortarion. I haven't read Warhawk yet but I don't think his decision was everything it was cracked up to be.
Mortarion is pissed off at him and isn't letting it go. This was supposed to put them on equal footing.
Then Mortarion once again is doing what he wants. Not what he wants.
So he just leaves Mortarion.
Worse yet, Mortarion's wants are being blessed by the Grandfather. And his concerns/wants getting brushed aside. Mortarion is elevated to demonhood, yet he hasn't. Older Death Guard side with Mortarion. After everything he gave them.
"‘And if I choose not to?’ said Typhus. Lord Mollucos smiled unpleasantly. ‘Among all mortals, perhaps you are arrogant enough to defy a god. Very well, should you take the road away from the garden, you shall know an eternity of divine displeasure.’"
Enough of a sore spot he's willing to openly threaten to defy Nurgle.
In the end I think he just wants Mortarion back but can't go back to their original arrangement.
He can't acknowledge any wrong doing on his part. He traumatized Mortarion further. Forever creating a divide between him and Mortarion (and most of the Death Guard). Mortarion is just being sentimental and doesn't fully accept Nurgle. Unlike himself. He's doing the true will of the Grandfather.
So yeah, I think their relationship had some imbalance issues. That got worse once Mortarion became Typhus' genefather. Leading to resentment that just built up till it exploded outwards.

I’ve been rereading Lords of Silence by Chris Wraight and MAN the vibes are so goddamn good. Just incredibly immaculate.
Wait no, that’s not right. The vibes are completely tainted. They’ve been buried in a shallow grave where the worms and grubs are allowed to wriggle their way into the open flesh as the vibes rotmax their way into immortality. And that’s to its benefit. It has that hallmarks of a good csm story, with the added benefit of incredible detail and grotesque descriptions fitting a modern 40K Death Guard book. These astartes feel properly ancient as they struggle to read modern fucking gothic. Because they’re from 10,000 years ago and languages change over time.
It’s so goddamn good it encouraged me to make a very impulsive purchase resulting in me kind of restarting my DG collection, since I’m not happy looking at my past paint jobs for them. It’s been very exciting.
